💚 This Month we recognize the silent battle. Wearing our Mental Health Awareness shirts is just a small gesture, but know you’re not alone and if needed, all EMS employees are available for any support 💚
May is designated as Mental Health Awareness Month (established in 1949 by Mental Health America) to fight stigma, provide support, educate the public, and advocate for policies that prioritize mental wellness. It serves as a crucial time to highlight that mental health is as important as physical health, aiming to ensure that the one in five adults living with mental illness feel supported and not alone.
💚Reducing Stigma: The primary goal is to break the silence and shame surrounding mental health issues, encouraging people to seek treatment without fear.
💚Education and Awareness: It serves to inform the public about the warning signs of mental illness, the importance of early intervention, and available resources.
💚Highlighting Prevalence: Since 2020, incidences of mental illness have increased, highlighting that conditions like anxiety and depression are common, with one in five American adults experiencing them each year.
💚Supporting Recovery: The month celebrates that recovery from mental illness is possible, providing hope and highlighting support systems for individuals, families, and communities.
💚Focus on Specific Needs: It highlights the needs of vulnerable groups, including children, youth, and frontline healthcare workers who face significant, often unseen, stressors
