🚨 NOT YOUR AVERAGE SUNDAY RESCUE 🚨
Early Sunday afternoon, Chestnut Ridge VFC was dispatched to a highly unusual call just over a mile from our station. The dispatch read: “Someone is stuck in a tree and the tree is on top of them.”
Upon arrival, our crews found a man who had been cutting down a tree. A massive branch had shifted, pinning him against the trunk a whopping 25 feet in the air.
This complex operation required a massive team effort. We were quickly joined by: Pikesville Volunteer Fire Company's Heavy Rescue Squad (S322), Glyndon Volunteer Fire Department's ladder truck (T404), and a team from Baltimore County Fire Department, including BCoFD Station 17 - Texas (T17), a paramedic (EMS5), an ambulance (A119), and Battalion Chief (BC1).
Thanks to seamless teamwork and state-of-the-art rescue equipment, the team stabilized the shifting branches and successfully freed the man in less than an hour of arrival.
He was airlifted by Maryland State Police - Aviation Command to the University of Maryland Medical Center's R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center with serious leg injuries. Our thoughts are with him for a swift recovery.
