🌸 Menstrual Health Awareness Month | Period Poverty Awareness Week (May 11–17) 🌸

The Baltimore Chapter of Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc. and Top Teens of America, in partnership with the University of Baltimore, are taking action—and we need you with us.

💗 This month, we’re shining a light on menstrual health, dignity, and access. Far too many girls and women miss school, work, and daily opportunities due to lack of basic hygiene products. Together, we can change that.

🛍️ We’re hosting a Hygiene Drive to support our Period Poverty Project!
Our goal: Donate 50+ period packs to girls and women in need across our community.

✨ How You Can Help:
Donate new, unopened items such as:

Tampons & sanitary napkins
Pantyliners & menstrual cups
Period underwear
Disposable underwear (new/unopened)
Soap, shower gel, wipes, washcloths
Sanitary disposal bags
📍 Donations will be assembled and distributed during Period Poverty Awareness Week (May 11–17)—supporting students and families right here in Baltimore.

Today is not just a celebration. It’s a call to accountability.

📊 Why It Matters:
• Maryland generates over 9 million tons of waste annually, with a significant portion still ending up in landfills
• The Chesapeake Bay, a vital ecosystem, continues to face pollution from stormwater runoff, plastics, and waste
• Recycling contamination remains a major issue and improper sorting can send entire loads to landfills

As leaders in service, we have both the influence and responsibility to model sustainable practices in our homes, workplaces, and communities.

✨ Action Steps for Today and Beyond:
• ♻️ Recycle Right: Follow Maryland’s recycling guidelines—no plastic bags, rinse containers, and avoid wish-cycling
• 🛍️ Bring Your Own Bags: Maryland enforces bag reduction policies—opt for reusable every time
• 🚫 Reduce Single-Use Plastics: Choose sustainable alternatives for daily use
• 🌱 Support Local & Sustainable: Shop with vendors committed to eco-friendly practices
• 💧 Protect Our Waterways: Properly dispose of waste and chemicals—what enters our drains impacts the Chesapeake Bay
• 🏡 Household Impact: Conserve energy, reduce water usage, and commit to long-term sustainable habits

From our trailblazing charter members to the phenomenal women continuing the legacy today—this milestone is a testament to strength, dedication, and unwavering service.

As we honor this special day, we celebrate the vision, resilience, and sisterhood that has carried us forward—and we look ahead to continuing the work that truly makes a difference.
