A group of our Emergency Medical Technicians got hands-on practice with hemorrhage control this afternoon, as part of the Technical Proficiency Verification our staff undergoes during each recertification cycle. Pulse is proud to offer top-notch training in-house, including:

Today we were thrilled to have a visit from two Gaited Advocate Intervention Team, Inc. 501c3 Ambassador Horses! Luna (taller) and Cosmo (pony) were here to give our staff a little break during our Employee Recognition “Pulse Week” event. Our staff got to feed snacks, pet, cuddle and groom them - and then the horses got the grand tour! Cosmo strolled through our dispatch center, training room, and administration hallway. He and Luna then checked out our maintenance garage before taking a peek inside one of our Critical Care units. Finally, while Luna was saying hello to some of the children that dropped by, Cosmo showed off one of his impressive tricks! Many thanks to GAIT, Starry Night Stables - Maryland, and their volunteers Jamie and Laura for making this happen, sharing how their rescue helps equines in need, and providing some relaxation for our staff. We loved having them!

Today we held our first Neonatal Advanced Life Support (NALS) course! Taught in-house by our clinical leadership team, this class prepares our staff to perform life-saving interventions such as umbilical venous catheterization and neonatal CPAP.

Did you know that horses are often considered an excellent tool in the care of many mental health concerns? Equine-assisted therapy has proven to be particularly effective in treating First Responders suffering from post-traumatic stress.

In recognition of the role horses can play in helping law enforcement, firefighters, 9-1-1 dispatchers, military, and emergency medical services personnel - Pulse is proud to be a 2026 sponsor of Gaited Advocate Intervention Team, Inc. (GAIT), a 501c3 charity dedicated to rescuing at-risk equines. Earlier this year, SCT Program Director Zach Risoldi was able to adopt a Mountain Horse through GAIT. Appropriately, the horse is now named “Medic”, and with assistance from another of GAIT’s partners, Starry Night Stables Maryland, Zach hopes to one day use Medic to bring emotional support to other emergency services personnel.
