The land upon which Hampton stands, was originally settled in the mid-1600s by the Talbott family. In the late 1700s the plantation was owned by the Carcaud family and the house which stands today was built around 1825 by David Carcaud. The lumber used in the construction was hewn and pit sawn on the property. In 1844, an addition was added to the original side-entrance design completing the curre

nt symmetrical Georgian center hall floor-plan. The interior is Greek Revival which was enhanced significantly during a Colonial Revival restoration in 1940s.
