🏴‍☠️ River Daze was a fantastic day on the Shiawassee River! 🏴‍☠️

From creative rafts and decorated watercraft to plenty of smiles and laughter, this year’s pirate-themed River Daze was a memorable part of the Curwood Festival. It was great to see so many people enjoying the river and bringing the theme to life in their own unique ways.

River Daze is a perfect reminder of what makes our community special. Seeing families, friends, and neighbors come together to enjoy the outdoors and celebrate our beautiful river is what the Curwood Festival is all about.

A huge thank you to everyone who built a raft, paddled a kayak, floated the river, volunteered, or cheered from the shore. You helped make this year’s River Daze a wonderful success.

We can’t wait to see what creativity and fun next year brings! ❤️🤍❤️🚣‍♂️🌊

The Heritage Parade Committee is issuing the following statement regarding concerns raised following this year’s Heritage Parade involving participant compliance with established parade guidelines.
The Committee requires all participating units to comply with rules intended to preserve the community-focused and non-partisan nature of the event. These guidelines include a prohibition on campaigning of any kind, including campaign signage, flyers, and related promotional materials. In addition, all participating units are expected to follow the designated parade theme, which this year was “NO Sharks,” and conduct themselves in a respectful manner throughout the event.
It was communicated to participating groups that floats were to be decorated in accordance with the parade theme and that no campaigning would take place on the parade route or before or after the parade.
One participating group was permitted entry based on information provided during the registration process indicating their focus would be on community service efforts. Based on that understanding, the Committee believed the group's participation aligned with the intent and spirit of the parade.
It is important to clarify that no candidates or organizations were authorized to engage in campaign-related activities as part of the parade. Any display of campaign signage or related activity was not consistent with established parade rules.
As part of its normal post-event evaluation process, the Committee will review concerns that have been raised regarding participant compliance with parade guidelines, registration procedures, and overall event operations. The Committee will use that review to determine whether any changes are needed to strengthen expectations, communication, and enforcement for future events.
The Committee appreciates the efforts of volunteers, participants, and community members who contributed to the event and remains committed to ensuring the Heritage Parade continues to be a positive, welcoming, and inclusive community tradition.

Every year before the Heritage Parade, we have the honor of welcoming our royal guests to our Royalty Reception.

This year, the reception was hosted at the beautiful The Home Office Realty LLC Event Center, generously donated by Morgan and John Beilfuss. We are so grateful for their hospitality and support of the Curwood Festival.

A special thank you also goes to Mr. Owosso 2019, Justin Horvath, for sponsoring lunch and a loaded lemonade bar for our guests. Your generosity helped make the afternoon extra special.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this cherished Curwood tradition possible! ❤️🤍❤️

👑 Congratulations to Mr. Owosso 2026, Tony Nash! 👑
After a month of fundraising, community events, friendly competition, and countless volunteer hours, Tony Nash has been crowned Mr. Owosso 2026!
Since the campaign began on May 8, Tony, Brandon Mead, and Jalen Waters have inspired our community through their dedication to local nonprofits and their passion for giving back. Together, they demonstrated what makes Curwood Country so special: neighbors helping neighbors and a community that shows up when it matters most.
Tony’s campaign in support of Haven of Rest of Shiawassee County raised more than $53,000, an incredible achievement that will make a meaningful difference in the lives of those served by the organization.
We would also like to congratulate Brandon Mead and Jalen Waters on outstanding campaigns. The real winners are the organizations they represented and the community that rallied behind them. The generosity, creativity, and enthusiasm shown throughout the past month have been truly inspiring.
Thank you to every donor, volunteer, sponsor, supporter, and community member who participated in this year’s Mr. Owosso campaign. Your support helped turn a month-long competition into something much bigger.
Please join us in congratulating Tony Nash, Mr. Owosso 2026! ❤️🤍👑

As another Curwood Festival comes to a close and the cleanup begins, we pause to reflect on why this tradition exists in the first place.

Before the parades, the music, the carnival rides, the races, the contests, and the countless memories made each year, there was James Oliver Curwood.

A hometown author whose stories reached readers around the world, Curwood never forgot Owosso. His love for storytelling, adventure, nature, and community continues to inspire us nearly a century later. Curwood Castle still stands along the banks of the Shiawassee River as a reminder of the man whose legacy brings us together each year.

This weekend was made possible by our dedicated volunteers, generous sponsors, participants, performers, community partners, and festivalgoers who gave their time, talents, and support. Many of our volunteers spend months planning, organizing, fundraising, and preparing for these four days, all because they believe in this community and the legacy we celebrate.

Every parade entry, every event, every smile, and every tradition carried forward is a testament to the community spirit that Curwood cherished.

As we pack away the signs, fold the tables, and begin planning for another year, we do so with grateful hearts.

Thank you to everyone who helped make the 2026 Curwood Festival a success. Thank you for celebrating our community, our history, and the legacy of James Oliver Curwood.

His stories live on. His castle stands strong. And because of all of you, his legacy continues to bring our community together year after year.

❤️🤍 Until next year, Curwood Country. ❤️

What a fantastic Heritage Parade! ❤️🤍❤️ Thank you to our parade participants, volunteers, public safety personnel, sponsors, and everyone who lined the streets to cheer. From the floats and marching bands to the community groups and smiling faces, today’s parade was a wonderful celebration of the spirit, pride, and traditions that make Curwood Country so special. We were especially thrilled to welcome many of our Kids in Curwood Country Parade participants, whose parade was sadly rained out, and see them join in the fun. 🎉🇺🇸☀️❤️🤍❤️
