At Shiawassee Hope, we were helping connect families with gifts for their children through December 23 but now the final tallies are in and we want to say a HUGE THANK you to all of our donors. Together, we served 107 children from 46 families. Our Christmas Store gives gifts to kids but more importantly, dignity to parents. That's a gift that keeps on giving!

Shiawassee Hope is grateful for the support of Fitness Coliseum. They held a weeklong event last week, allowing people to drop-in to try a class in exchange for a donation to Shiawassee Hope's Christmas store. They collected $350 for us! That means parents of at least 2 children will be able to have the dignity of shopping for their own children's Christmas presents. Thank you, Fitness Coliseum for all the good you bring to our community!

Donations for Drops ins last week was a big success!! We were able to raise $350 for the Shiawassee Hope Christmas Store! We also got to see over 40 new faces in our classes at the gym! We’ll call that a win!

Pleasant Valley Impact Center, a project of Shiawassee Hope, helps to resource dozens of families in the Pleasant Valley Trailer Park every month. We're throwing together an impromptu birthday party for our executive director and one of our littlest neighbors to help collect resources for the Impact Center. You bring us resources, we'll feed you lunch! So if you're in town on Labor Day weekend, swing by the trailer park. We'll even give you a quick tour of the Impact Center.

It's Giving Tuesday. Give where you live! When you give to Shiawassee Hope, you help to create a community that empowers under-resourced people to live creative, productive, and hopeful lives.
Your donations helps to fund:
A community connection center in a local trailer park

Bringing community resources right into local neighborhoods
And more.

You can donate to Shiawassee Hope and 22 of our community partners who work with us to make a great community.

Shiawassee Hope is gearing up for our annual co-pay Christmas Toy Store. We will be accepting donations Tuesday November 23 and Tuesday November 30 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at 521 E. Williams Street.

What is a co-pay Christmas store? It preserved parents' dignity by allowing them to pay $10 per family to shop for their own children's Christmas.

Imagine sitting by your Christmas tree on Christmas morning, watching your children open toys that a stranger bought for them. As generous as that donor is, they don't know your children. You didn't get the joy of wrapping gifts or keeping a secret. You don't even know what your children are getting! Imagine watching your son open a gift labeled "Boy, age 10." Imagine what that does to your boy.

We have to be sure that our charity provides a good feeling for the recipients as much as or maybe more so than for the donor.

And now you know why we feel so passionate about "co-pay."

And for that $10 per family, parents choose 1 large gift, 2 small/medium gifts, stockings and stuffers, pajamas, socks, and underwear for each child and a $50 grocery card for the family.

See the attached flyer for information on how you can be involved.

We're working on a grant report today and are struck once again by the difference it makes when HOPE shows up in a neighborhood. These pictures are of the playground at Pleasant Valley Trailer Park. January 2020-April 2021. Through funds from 100+ Women Who Care and Shiawassee Community Foundation AND through the hard work and dedication of Eagle Scout Sam Felpausch, Shiawassee Hope was able to bring this resource into the neighborhood where we work.

The pantry was open, free dinner served, and a surprise visit from the ice cream truck sponsored by some incredible volunteers. We’ll be in the neighborhood every Wednesday this summer from 4-6 pm. Next week, we’ll be planting our garden beds if you’d like to join us.
