This achievement is a direct result of the hard work, dedication, and countless volunteer hours put in by our incredible members. Your commitment to training, preparedness, and service has made our community safer and stronger.

**STATEWIDE BURN BAN LIFTED EFFECTIVE 8 A.M. WEDNESDAY, APRIL 2**

The N.C. Forest Service has lifted a ban on all open burning effective 8 a.m. Wednesday, April 2. The statewide ban went into effect March 21 due to hazardous forest fire conditions.

The lifting of the burn ban does not apply to fires started within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling. The local fire marshal has authority to issue or lift a burn ban within that 100 feet.

As of 8 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, burn permits are available statewide. Residents can obtain a burn permit from any authorized permitting agent or online at https://apps.ncagr.gov/burnpermits/. All burn permits granted before the statewide burn ban were canceled when the ban became effective. A valid permit must be obtained.

Residents with questions regarding their specific county can contact their local N.C. Forest Service county ranger or county fire marshal’s office. To find contact information for your local NCFS county ranger, visit www.ncforestservice.gov/contacts.

Due to increased fire risk, the N.C. Forest Service has issued a ban on all open burning and has canceled all burning permits statewide effective 8 a.m. Friday, March 21 until further notice.

Under North Carolina law, the ban prohibits all open burning in the affected counties, regardless of whether a permit was previously issued. The issuance of any new permits has also been suspended until the ban is lifted. Anyone violating the burn ban faces a $100 fine plus $183 court costs. Any person responsible for setting a fire may be liable for any expenses related to extinguishing the fire.

The burn ban does not apply to fires started within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling. The local fire marshal has authority to issue a burn ban within that 100 feet.

Did you know?

During winter weather in North Carolina, state and local first responders will mark disabled vehicles with yellow caution tape to let others know that the vehicle has been checked and that there is no emergency or help needed.

The best thing to do is to stay off the roadways if at all possible. This keeps you safe and keeps first responders safe.

With temperatures struggling to get above freezing today, hazardous driving conditions will be possible where accumulating snow has fallen.

Over the next week, fire danger will be high for North Carolina. A handful of western counties feel that impact beginning today, and day by day, fire danger will elevate in an eastern trek across the state. While we thaw out from the winter storm and before burning outdoors, check the fire danger map and consult with your N.C. Forest Service county ranger about conditions and safe burning practices.
