We are excited to start another EMT class in coordination with Oxford Community Schools.

Class is in session! Today, 22 Oxford High School students embarked on their journey to become licensed emergency medical technicians (EMTs). They’re enrolled in the Oxford Fire Department EMT program, which is a partnership between the OXFD and Oxford Community Schools.

Established in 2020, the program is designed to prepare students to: 1) meet all the state’s education requirements for EMTs and 2) take the National Registry exam after they turn 18. Successful completion of this exam is necessary to become a licensed EMT in Michigan.

This 2026-27 class includes Savannah Baker, Harrison Baldwin, Brooke Bourdeau, Sydney Calin, Josephine Delano, Raegan Donaldson, Mallory Glowacki, Claire Grech, Samantha Jolivet, Parker Jones, Jack Kozloff, Addison Lynch, Lucy Mahalak, Aiden Meza, Eva Mikan, Ben Morgan, Gavan Munson, Addison Prince, Bryce Roe, Isabella Stephens, Noah Turek and Paul Wells.

The class is part of the school district’s Health Science Career and Technical Education (CTE) program. It is available to eligible high school seniors enrolled in Oxford Schools. Lisa Butts is the CTE director and has been incredibly supportive of this class.

Oxford Fire Capt. and EMS Coordinator Kevin Snell is the program director and Kelly Kilgore, the department's recruitment and retention manager, is the lead instructor.

Please help us welcome Firefighter/EMT Brennan Mielnicki to our ranks. Read in his own words why he became a firefighter and why Oxford.

"I am a 23 year old FF/EMT and I’m currently half way through my paramedic program at Genesys in Grand Blanc. I grew up here in Oxford and I graduated in 2021. After High School I originally trained hunting/obedience and therapy dogs, 2 of which ended up being therapy dogs for the Oxford High School. It wasn’t until fall of 2024 when I joined my Future father in law, Jason Murray (Battalion Chief of Rochester Hills), and his crew on a ride along that changed everything. Since that day I knew the fire service and serving my hometown community is what I wanted to do. I swiftly joined the OCC winter EMT class and Fall Fire Academy 79. After graduating academy I got engaged to my beautiful Fiancé who just recently graduated her PA program. Outside of work I love spending time with my family, wrestling with my dogs, fishing, golfing and working out. I am extremely excited to be able to serve, protect and give back to the community who helped shape who I am. I love Oxford and this is my home. It’s where my family lives, it’s where I was raised and I was taught you take care of your own. Thank you to the Oxford Fire Department for believing in me and giving me this opportunity and I graciously look forward to a long and healthy career here in the great Township of Oxford."

"I am a 30-year-old Firefighter/Paramedic with the Oxford Fire Department and a proud Michigan native. After spending 10 years in Florida, I returned to Michigan in 2024 and am excited to be back home and serving the community where I now live.
My journey into the fire and EMS profession started in Florida in 2021. Although I had always been interested in the field, it wasn't until I witnessed someone suffer a cardiac arrest that I realized how much I wanted to be able to help in situations like that. At the time, I remember feeling helpless because I didn't know what to do. That experience stayed with me and ultimately pushed me to pursue a career where I could be the person who knows what to do when someone else is having the worst day of their life.
Since then, the fire service and EMS have become a huge part of who I am. I enjoy the challenges of the job, the constant learning, the camaraderie that comes with working alongside others, and most importantly, the opportunity to make a difference in someone's life when they need help the most.
Outside of the fire department, I enjoy spending time with my family and being outdoors. I am proud to call Oxford home and to be a homeowner in the community. I have an amazing wife who has supported me throughout my career and has been a huge part of my journey.
I am incredibly excited to join the Oxford Fire Department and have the opportunity to serve the community that I now call home. I look forward to getting to know the people of Oxford, building relationships, and serving alongside the men and women of the department for many years to come."
