🔥Firehouse Library & Pantry🔥

We wanted to take a moment to remind everyone about this wonderful opportunity we have here at the CVFD. It has been such a blessing for us to have to refill the food pantry to help those in our community. This food pantry and library is for EVERYONE. Do not ever feel like you cannot stop by to get what you need.

With that being said, this is also a chance for people to share with others also. Bring your books to share or even help add some items to the pantry. We live in a great community where we want everyone to support one another.

Thank you Cornwall area for giving us a chance to share this opportunity with you.

‼️Restocked ‼️

We have had a lot of additions to our library section. We hope everyone is enjoying grabbing a new book to read and sharing their old books with others.

Our food supply has been restocked again. It is truly an honor to know we are helping those in the community. We have breakfast food, sides, baby food, etc. If you are ever in need of something different, please reach out to the FD to let us know.

The statewide burn ban remains in effect until further notice despite weekend rain in some areas. Persistent dry weather and increasing rainfall deficits from the last several months have left most of the state needing 10 inches of rain or more.

“While the rainfall we received over the weekend was a welcome sight, it offered little to no relief from widespread drought conditions while being nowhere near enough to reduce our wildfire risk,” said Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler. “Even the areas that received the heaviest amount of rain will quickly dry out from the sunshine and warmer temperatures. Until we get some additional rain and see more green-up in our forests, holding the burn ban in place statewide is the best option right now.”

While green-up and leaf-out are progressing at normal rate, low soil moisture, dry surface fuels and persistent low humidity are contributing to wildfire activity. For Western North Carolina, excessive forest fuels from Hurricane Helene are more available now than they were in 2025, low water levels in coastal areas have helped produce intense fire behavior where ground fire will likely be a long-term issue, and the Piedmont experienced 87 new wildfire starts over the weekend alone. Extended attack and mop-up efforts will be taxing and long-winded until drought conditions improve.

We are happy to announce that we have received our ISO rating today. Our rating was a 5/9E.

An ISO inspection is like a “report card” for how prepared the fire department and community are to handle fires. This directly affects both safety and insurance costs for the members of our community. The scores range from a 1 (best protection) to a 10 (little to no protection). A better ISO rating can lead to lower homeowners’ insurance premiums for people in our district. It also helps identify areas where the department can improve.

If you have any questions regarding this rating, please email [email protected].

All residents are reminded that a statewide burn ban is currently in place across North Carolina. This restriction applies to all open burning, including yard debris, fire pits, and recreational fires.

These measures are in place to reduce the risk of wildfires, especially during periods of dry and windy conditions.

Safety Tips:
• Do not burn leaves, trash, or debris
• Avoid using fire pits, burn barrels, or outdoor fireplaces
• Properly dispose of ci******es
• Be cautious with equipment that may create sparks
• Report any signs of fire immediately by calling 911

Let’s all do our part to keep our communities, first responders, and natural resources safe. Prayers for rain, those having to fight fires currently, and our community members that depend on the rain to help them make a living are appreciated and encouraged.

How does the “library” part of our 🔥Firehouse Library and Pantry🔥 work?

Borrowing a book:
You can stop by anytime, look through the books, and take one (or more) that interests you.

Adding a book:
If you have books at home you’re done with, you can place them in the library for others to enjoy. It helps keep the selection fresh and shared.

Returning a book:
Once you’ve finished reading, you can bring it back. The idea is to keep the library full and circulating.

It’s simple: take what you’ll read, give what you can, and share the love of books.
