We're experiencing brown water today at the Pearl at Oxford Commons today due to fire hydrant flushing in the vicinity. Crews are working to flush hydrants, buildings and services to clear it up. We tested the water and its safe to drink, and will hopefully be cleared up soon.

Wish we could have been there to celebrate with you and thank you in person for all your assistance provided to the City of Oxford during Winter Storm Fern. Today we had an employee appreciation event of our own.

This is great. Glad to see the students enjoying the stickers, and looks like we need to send a few more.

Informative article on the widespread power outages caused by Winter Storm Fern. Oxford had the highest ice accretion (1.10") of any other City in the 10 state region affected by the storm. 95% of our customers were out on Sunday 1/25 at 6AM and we were fully restored to all customers who could take power by Monday 2/2. So proud of our team, our mutual aid partners and contractors who worked relentlessly to restore service.

Thanks again City of Athens, Alabama (Public Relations) for your assistance during the recent ice storm in City of Oxford. The tireless effort of your team and our other mutual aid partners made the difference in our restoration. Please let us know if we can ever assist in the future.

Electric Department Manager Hunter Allen said the six-man Athens Utilities crew, who spent nearly 10 days helping restore power to the residents in the City of Oxford, have returned safely home.

Dustin Jackson, Chayse Carter, Brandon Pepper, Will Thomas, Jeff Hines, and Eli Gilbert worked alongside Oxford’s utility crews and numerous others as severe winter weather devastated the area.

“Having been on the receiving end of this kind of aid in the past, we understand just how much it means,” Mayor Ronnie Marks said. “Our guys worked hard and we’re truly thankful they’ve made it back home safe and sound. They showed what kind of great people we have here in Athens.”

Please join us in welcoming home Dustin, Chayse, Brandon, Will, Jeff, and Eli.
