Wondering what’s blooming at F.W. Kent Park? Head over to the Conservation Education Center, where flowers are popping up left and right!

While at the CEC you can admire both the wildflowers and the refreshed bird strike prevention artwork on the front windows. This artwork helps prevent bird mortalities by making the glass visible to our avian friends.

Special thanks to the volunteer who shared her time and skills to create these eye-popping pictures as part of our bird-friendly window display!

How cool is this pale purple coneflower made out of paper?!? We will be making these during a class coming up on June 11th!

These flowers are made using specialty crepe paper which creates beautiful texture within the flower. Participants will create their own coneflower to take home, and learn many paper flower techniques along the way.

Sign up for this class here: https://www.mycountyparks.com/County/Johnson/Park/JOHNSON-COUNTY-EDUCATION-PROGRAMS/Events/28660/Paper-Coneflower-Workshop

We have a small number of cecropia AND promethea moth eggs currently available for adoption. Adopters will get a detailed care sheet when they pick up their eggs, but should be prepared to provide the correct food for them. They will do best when raised outdoors, directly on their host plant and are prone to getting sick if raised indoors or on cut food. You can do this by pulling a mesh bag over the branch and securing both ends closed.

You can make your own mesh bags if you are handy, or purchase bags like the ones here: https://store.raisingbutterflies.org/.../sleeveblack10w20...

We've also seen some people experimenting with bug head nets which have an elastic cord around one end to fasten them.

Sign up for eggs here at the links below:

Cecropia (host plants are cherry, apple, crabapple, wild plum and lilac.) https://www.mycountyparks.com/County/Johnson/Park/JOHNSON-COUNTY-EDUCATION-PROGRAMS/Events/29238/Cecropia-Moth-Adoptions

Promethea (host plants are cherry, tuliptree, magnolia)

Adoptions will close at 12pm tomorrow (Wednesday) and all eggs will need to be picked up on Wednesday or Thursday during the pick-up times listed on the event page.
