Officer Nick Davis and Officer Eli McMain enjoyed spending time with students, talking about their work and showing them that police officers are here to help, support and connect with our community.

Today, we were honored to participate in and sponsor the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb.

This event is more than a physical challenge—it is an opportunity to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, honor the first responders who answered the call, and make sure their sacrifice is never forgotten.

A special thank you to Stronger Together, the Oxford Fire Department, Ole Miss Athletics, and the many sponsors and volunteers who worked together to make this event possible.

Our LOU community is hurting, and we hurt alongside you. The tragic loss of two students this week has deeply impacted our community, and our thoughts are with their families, friends, classmates, and everyone grieving this loss.

In an effort to meet our community where they need us, the Oxford Police Department, Lafayette County Sheriff's Office, and Ole Miss Police are partnering with Communicare MS to host a free community Narcan training on October 1 from 6–7 p.m. at the OPD Training Room, 9 Industrial Park Drive.

Narcan will be provided to all attendees.

This is an opportunity to come together, support one another, and learn a potentially lifesaving skill. No registration required. Everyone is welcome.

As law enforcement officials, we want to be good partners to our community by providing life-saving training and tools. That does not change our commitment to holding people accountable for the possession or distribution of illegal narcotics. Our message remains consistent: Do not use drugs.

The data is clear: illicit narcotics can be deadly. We should not have to experience another tragic loss of life to bring attention to this issue. Accountability and enforcement will continue to be at the forefront of our efforts to fight this epidemic.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -

Lafayette County Metro Narcotics Unit Executes Search Warrant at Oxford Business

OXFORD, MISS. — On Thursday, September 24, 2026, the Lafayette County Metro Narcotics Unit received information regarding the alleged sale of illegal substances from a retail business located within the City of Oxford.

During the investigation, Metro Narcotics agents were able to conduct a controlled purchase of illegal substances from the business. Based upon evidence obtained during the investigation, agents applied for and were granted a search warrant.

Law enforcement officers subsequently executed the search warrant at Puffs V**e, To***co and B**r Store, located in the 100 block of Heritage Drive in Oxford.

During the search, agents recovered more than 500 units of kratom, along with an assortment of THC cartridges, gummies, and other suspected narcotics. Kratom has been prohibited from possession, distribution, and sale within the City of Oxford since 2019.

Yahya Mohamed Mosleh, 51, of Oxford, and Islam Mohamed, 18, of Oxford, were arrested and charged with possession of Schedule I controlled substances with intent to distribute. In 2022, the business owner, Amer Alowdi, 40 years old, was indicted for trafficking narcotics. Alowdi fled the country before prosecution. Additional charges may be forthcoming as the investigation continues.

For years, our community has taken a clear position regarding these types of products. We have educated businesses, conducted compliance checks, and worked aggressively to prevent illegal and potentially dangerous substances from being sold in Oxford.

Despite those efforts, some individuals and businesses continue to put profit ahead of the safety of the people who live, work, and attend school in our community.

Our message is direct: if you choose to illegally sell these substances in our community, expect law enforcement to come looking for you. We will investigate. We will obtain warrants. We will seize illegal products, and we will hold those responsible accountable.

This investigation does not end with these arrests. These individuals and this business are not necessarily the only people involved in the illegal distribution of these products, and

they should not expect to be the last arrests made as our enforcement efforts continue.

We are extremely grateful for the hard work of the Lafayette County Metro Narcotics Unit, the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, and every local, state, and federal law enforcement partner assisting with these investigations.

Our responsibility is to protect this community. We will continue pursuing those who knowingly place dangerous and illegal substances into it.

This remains an active investigation. Additional information will be released when appropriate

What you saw downtown this weekend was the result of months of planning, selection, and training.

When the most anticipated football game in Ole Miss history came to town, our mounted units were already prepared. For 72 hours, officers and auxiliaries put service before self. Horses were cared for fed, watered, rested, and checked before the officers ever thought about their own needs.

That’s the standard our team hold themselves to.

The conditions were tough. Intense heat. Long hours. Still, the teams stayed on post, providing crowd safety all over the downtown area. Roughly 20,000 pounds of horsepower working quietly and effectively so the rest of the city could enjoy the weekend safely.

Some of the horse-and-rider partnerships have been together for more than decade. That kind of trust and experience doesn’t happen overnight. It shows up when it matters most.

None of this happens alone. We are grateful for the partners who made this operation possible:

A statement from Chief Jeff McCutchen on the weekend:

"This weekend was an incredible success for our entire community, and from a public safety standpoint, we could not be more proud of the way Oxford was represented.

We saw tremendous crowds and an incredible amount of energy throughout the weekend. Despite the number of people who came into our community, the crowds within the City were well behaved, and we are extremely thankful for that.

A weekend of this magnitude is never the work of one department or one organization. It takes an entire team.

We are grateful for the men and women of the Oxford Police Department, Oxford Fire Department, Lafayette County Sheriff's Office, our paramedics, dispatchers, medical personnel, and all of the other first responders who worked long hours throughout the weekend to keep people safe and provide assistance whenever it was needed.

I also want to specifically recognize our City of Oxford Environmental Services team. Their work can sometimes happen behind the scenes, but it was impossible not to notice their effort this weekend. I saw those men and women working around the clock to keep our streets, downtown area, and community clean and beautiful. Their commitment and hard work played a major role in the success of the weekend.

This was not simply a police operation or a public safety operation, it was a community effort.

From our first responders and city employees to our businesses, residents, visitors, and everyone who helped welcome people to Oxford, this weekend showed what can happen when an entire community works together.

We are thankful for a safe and successful weekend, proud of the way our community was represented, and especially proud of all the men and women who worked behind the scenes to make it happen."
