You might see them at festivals, football games, or patrolling the Square, but this is what it looks like behind the scenes. OPD’s Mounted Patrol Unit sharpened their skills this morning with precision drills: tight turns, confined maneuvering, and backing.

Hours like these are what make those moments possible. 🐴

Training never stops at OPD. Some Oxford Police Department officers are sharpening their skills this week, participating in ARIDE (Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement) training hosted by Mississippi TIDE.

This specialized course equips our officers with advanced techniques to identify drug and alcohol impairment, keeping our roads and community safer.

The investment we make in our officers’ education is an investment in the safety of every person in our community. At OPD, the classroom never closes. 📚🚔

On May 16th, 2026, the Oxford Police Department responded to a residence on St. Andrews Road in reference to a burglary that occurred, where over $140,000 worth of jewelry was stolen. Once officers secured the area, OPD investigations were notified and came to the scene. Investigators were able to locate the point of entry and recovered footprints and a partial fingerprint in the home. They were also able to obtain surveillance video from the area and noticed multiple individuals enter into a vehicle parked nearby that did not belong to anyone living in the area, which neighbors reported as suspicious.

Investigators then began to utilize traffic cameras and tag readers to track the vehicle. Noticing that the vehicle had come into town with a different license plate, OPD investigators then expanded their search to other areas that led to Alabama. After contacting the agencies within Alabama, it was discovered that they were working on burglaries that were similar in nature to the case in Oxford.

The vehicle was then spotted in multiple locations in Arkansas, Missouri, and Illinois. OPD investigators then actively tracked the car to an area in Missouri and were able to guide the Missouri Highway Patrol to the vehicle, where it was stopped, and the suspects were apprehended after a foot pursuit.

Fabian Ignactio Navarro-Aliaga, 27, and Marcelo Alejandro Telechea-Droguett, 36, both of Chile, were arrested and charged with Burglary - Forced Entry by the Oxford Police Department, and were also issued federal charges, and an immigration detainer was placed on both individuals.

Jewelry, fi****ms, and other stolen items have been recovered from the case and are in the process of being identified by their owners. The Oxford Police Department would like to thank the Missouri Highway Patrol, the Chicago Police Department, and the Department of Homeland Security for their assistance in this case. This is an ongoing investigation with more charges pending in several other states.
