Seven members of the City of Oxford Fire Department recently completed an intensive 36-hour Surface Water Rescue course, successfully earning their certifications as Surface Water Rescue Technicians.

Throughout the course, our firefighters gained valuable hands-on experience while training on our very own City of Oxford lake. This training strengthens our department’s ability to respond safely and effectively to water-related emergencies throughout our city and county.

We would like to extend a special thank you to the City of Oxford for allowing us to utilize local resources to enhance our training and emergency response capabilities.

Our firefighters remain committed to continuing their education, improving their skills, and being prepared to serve when our community needs us most.

Congrats Michael Harris!

Chief Wilkins writes: "I am pleased to recommend Michael Harris for Employee of the Quarter in recognition of his outstanding work, dedication, and achievements in supporting the fire protection responsibilities of the Oxford Fire Department.
Over the past several months, Michael stepped up and took responsibility for an important project after a supervisor was out due to surgery. He ensured that the City of Oxford’s fire hydrant system was properly flow tested and that all testing information was accurately documented in our data system as part of our ongoing ISO requirements.

Michael took the initiative to coordinate areas of the city with each shift, assigning sections for hydrant testing and following up to make sure the work was completed accurately and in a timely manner. His organization and leadership helped keep this important project moving forward and ensured that our department remained on schedule.

Hydrant flow testing is a critical part of maintaining the City’s fire protection system. The information collected helps ensure that hydrants are operational and capable of providing adequate water when firefighters need it during an emergency. While this work often happens behind the scenes, it directly impacts firefighter safety, emergency operations, and the protection of our community.
Michael is a hard worker who is always willing to stay busy and take on additional responsibilities. He consistently arrives on time, prepared and ready to work. His dependability, initiative, and commitment to the department are qualities that deserve recognition."
