On 5-19-26 at 07:35, Oxford Fire & Rescue was dispatched to the intersection of Highway 46 and Highway 136 (Cornwall Street) for reports of an overturned concrete truck laying on or near the railroad tracks.

Upon arrival, it was determined that the overturned truck was not directly on the railroad tracks, but it was close enough that we needed to shut down the railroad for the safety of everyone on scene. The railroad, as well as Highways 46 & 136 were closed for several hours while emergency personnel worked to remove the concrete truck from the scene.

At the time of the accident, the truck was fully loaded with 11 yards of concrete. Most of the concrete stayed in the drum, but there was some spilled onto the roadway.

The driver of the concrete truck was able to self-extricate from the vehicle prior to our arrival. The driver was checked out by Oxford EMS, and transported to the hospital by personal vehicle with minor injuries.

During assessment of the driver, Oxford EMS was dispatched for another call for a child with a hand injury. Thankfully, EMTs were available and able to respond in our other ambulance, while others remained on scene tending to the truck driver. The child was transported to the hospital. This is the third time in two months where we’ve had multiple calls at the same time.

We would like to thank Stamford Fire for their mutual aid support. We would also like to thank the Harlan County Sheriff’s Office, Furnas County Sheriff’s Office, Nebraska Department of Transportation, BNSF Railway and Randy’s & Brian’s Towing.

Yesterday evening the Oxford Fire Department responded to a reported wildland fire along the Republican River started by a tractor. The fire burned approximately 2 acres before crews were able to get it contained and extinguished.
We would like to thank the responding mutual aid departments from Arapahoe, Beaver City, Edison, Orleans, and Stamford for their assistance and teamwork on the scene.
With dry conditions and windy weather continuing across the area, we want to remind everyone to use extreme caution with any activity that could start a fire. A small spark can quickly turn into a fast-moving grass fire this time of year. Please check equipment, avoid parking in tall grass, and report fires immediately.
Thank you to all responding personnel for your quick work and safe operations today.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month 🧠💗

Your mental health matters.
Not just on your good days.
Not just when you’re “doing better.”
On the heavy days. The quiet days.
The barely-getting-through-it days.

YOU matter.
Exactly as you are — right now.

Your illness does not define you.
You are not your worst day.
You are not your diagnosis, your bad moments, or the things you’re still healing from.

You are allowed to take up space.
You are allowed to rest.
You are allowed to grow at your own pace.

And even when your mind tries to tell you otherwise —
you are worthy of love.

Always. 🫂

May is National Wildfire Awareness Month, so we're reminding you about the things you can do to protect your home today.

For more tips, visit the National Interagency Fire Center's site. https://www.nifc.gov/fire-information/fire-prevention-education-mitigation

🔥Clean roof surfaces and gutters of pine needs, leaves, branches, etc., regularly to avoid accumulation of flammable materials.

🔥Remove portions of any tree extending within 10 feet of the flue opening of any stove or chimney.

🔥Maintain a screen constructed of non-flammable material over the flue opening of every chimney or stovepipe.

🔥Landscape vegetation should be spaced so that fire cannot be carried to the structure or surrounding vegetation.

🔥Remove branches from trees to height of 15 feet from the ground.

🔥Dispose of stove or fireplace ashes and charcoal briquettes only after soaking them in a metal pail of water.

🔥Store gasoline in an approved safety can away from occupied buildings.

🔥Propane tanks should be far enough away from buildings for valves to be shut off in case of fire.

🔥All combustibles such as firewood, picnic tables, boats, etc. should be kept away from structures.

🔥Garden hose should be connected to outlet.

🔥Your address should be clearly marked on your property for emergency personnel.

🔥Have fire tools handy such as: ladder long enough to reach the roof, shovel, rake and bucket for water.

🔥Each home should have at least two different entrance and exit routes.
