On September 11, 2001, 2,977 innocent lives were taken in a tragedy that forever changed our nation. In the years since, thousands more first responders, recovery workers, and survivors have lost their lives to illnesses connected to that day.

The City of Oxford and our local first responders invite our community to join us as we honor the lives lost, recognize the courage and sacrifice of those who answered the call, and remember the lasting impact of September 11.

Twenty-five years later, we still remember. We still honor. We will never forget.

Traffic Crash Investigation

Today at approximately 2:20 p.m., the Oxford Police Department, Oxford Fire Department, and Oxford Health Systems responded to a vehicle crash at the intersection of AL Highway 21 and Buckhorn Road.

The crash involved one vehicle and a pedestrian who was riding an electric bicycle. Unfortunately, the individual riding the electric bicycle was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The victim’s name will not be released at this time to allow for notification of next of kin.

Please keep everyone involved in this tragic incident, along with their families and friends, in your thoughts and prayers.

UPDATE: ALL LANES ARE NOW OPEN

At this time, both lanes of Hwy 21 North at Buckhorn Rd are closed due to an accident. Please use alternate routes and use caution in the area.

We are currently on scene of an accident on Hwy 78 E in front of Millers Funeral Home with one lane blocked. Please use caution in the area and allow first responders to work safely.

🚨Road Construction Notice🚨
Paving crews will begin construction operations on Recreation Drive, Elm Street and Friendship Rd beginning Wednesday night 8/19/2026. The work will begin at approximately 7:00 PM each night and end around 7:00 AM each morning. Please avoid these areas if possible. We appreciate your patience and understanding. ⚠️ Extreme Heat Warning is in effect from 9 PM Sunday, Aug 16th through 9 PM Monday Aug 17th. ⚠️

Increasing heat and humidity will lead to dangerously high heat index values into next week. Temperatures will be in the mid 90s to lower 100s. Heat indices will be as high as 110. This level of long-duration heat affects anyone without effective cooling and/or adequate hydration. For people without effective cooling, this level of heat can be deadly.

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and
pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any
circumstances.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stoke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible an drink plenty of water.
