Mission

BOROUGH OF OXFORD

Policy for the Administration of the official Borough of Oxford page. Mission Statement
The official page of the Borough of Oxford. If you are looking for more information about historic Oxford, please visit www.oxfordboro.org. Purpose

The sole purpose of social media sites used by the Borough is to present information concerning the Oxford Borough

and its government to its many residents, businesses and visitors. The Borough encourages the use of social media to further Borough goals and the mission of its departments, where appropriate. It is an overriding interest and expectation, however, that it ensure that what is “spoken” on behalf of the Borough is also appropriate. The Borough page is not meant for comments that do not relate to the purpose or topic posted. General inquiries, comments, communications and service requests should be presented to the Borough directly and not through any social media site. The Borough’s Facebook “wall page” shall include the following statement:

This is the official page for the Borough of Oxford, Chester County, PA – www.oxfordboro.org. This page is intended to serve as a mechanism for communication between the Borough and the public on the listed topics. Any comments submitted to this page and its list of friends are public records subject to disclosure pursuant to Pennsylvania Open Records Law. Any open records requests must be made directly to the Borough’s Open Records Officer. Prohibited Conduct
Users and visitors to the Borough page shall be notified that the intended purpose of the site is to serve as a mechanism for communication between Borough departments and members of the public. The following forms of content are prohibited:
1. Comments that do not directly relate to the information or comments posted or displayed by the Borough on this site;

Borough of Oxford employees involved in any activity of this nature shall be disciplined by the Borough Manager’s office. Dealing with Criticism
One of the greatest fears by some professionals in respect to social media is the “fear of criticism”. Public employees and elected officials are in the public eye and are supported by taxpayers and residents they serve. Criticism on a professional level must be accepted and anticipated. Criticism on public social media websites of local government services is likely from time to time. If the criticism does not mention individual names of employees or elected officials and does not violate the policy set forth in Section C, the comments shall not be deleted from the page. Chester County is now under a drought warning. Oxford residents and business/property owners are asked to voluntarily restrict nonessential water use.

A voluntary reduction of 10%-15% of nonessential water use is requested of all residents and businesses, this includes non-mandatory activities like car washing and watering of lawns.

Thank you for playing your part in helping safeguard our water resources at this time.

Despite intermittent spring rainfall and considerable snowfall last winter, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has issued a drought warning for Chester County. Per DEP's guidance, residents, businesses and farmers are asked to voluntarily reduce their daily water usage by 10-15% or 6-9 gallons per person. For reference, the average showerhead uses about two gallons of water per minute, while washing dishes by hand can use up to 27 gallons.

Residents and businesses that rely on private wells and on-site septic systems should also remain mindful of water use.

Borough Now Accepting Applications for the Junior Council Person Program - 2026-2027 School Year!
Deadline to Apply: June 30, 2026

The Oxford Borough Council is looking for a curious and engaged young person to work with them as a Junior Council person for the 2026-2027 school year. Serving as a Junior Council Person gives students firsthand experience in local government and public service while they represent the voices and concerns of their peers. The program helps to build valuable skills in leadership, communication, problem-solving, and civic engagement that can benefit students in their future academic, professional, and community endeavors.

The opportunity is open to high school and college students that live in the Borough. Although we will consider students outside the Borough if their municipality does not have a similar program (Junior Township Supervisor). The program requires attending Council meetings the first and third Monday of each month at 7:00 pm, September through May.
