All, this is a bit dated, but just came upon it as I was looking for another one of Josh Locke's interviews. Josh is also a graduate of Det 430, and is excelling in the AF, leading our and other nation's warriors.

This video is from a short speech I gave recently about my time in Afghanistan as a Combat Advisor from 22 Oct 2016 to 20 May 2017.

All,

Det 430 alumni has lost a titan. Jim “Yogi” McElhenney, Lt Col, USAF (retired), Ole Miss class of 1989, passed away after losing his battle with cancer last week. He was a great patriot who served our Nation proudly and honorably. His time as a helicopter CSAR and Spec Ops helo pilot was marked with selfless devotion and personal sacrifice, which carried over to his post AF endeavors, most noteworthy of which was his advocacy and support for children of fallen CSAR warriors through the TOML foundation. For those of you who know him his service will be held at the Emerald Coast Funeral Home, Fort Walton Beach, Florida on 30 Jan. Visitation is at 1pm, service at 2pm. Interment at Arlington to be at a later, to be determined, date.

This our thoughts are with the families of those who will never join us in the classroom, those who gave their all in the dedication of their service. Let us spend a moment and remember our fallen brothers and sisters in arms who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our nation. Such remembrance which transcends higher education, politics, and business.

On this night in 1980 an ad hoc joint force launched to rescue their fellow Americans held hostage by the Islamic Republic of Iran. The mission would fail and claim the lives of 8 US Servicemen (5 USAF, 3 USMC). From this failure would emerge many lessons and institutional changes resulting in today's joint special operations force structure.
