County first responders will be at the Lafayette County & Oxford Public Library tomorrow!

This is a great opportunity for families to meet some of the people and agencies that help keep Lafayette County safe, including the Lafayette County Sheriff's Office and Lafayette County Fire Department.

Join us tomorrow (Friday, June 19) at the Lafayette County & Oxford Public Library for our First Responders Fair! We will be visited by Oxford MS Police Department, Lafayette County Sheriff's Office, Lafayette County Fire Department, Baptist Ambulance, American Red Cross of Mississippi, and the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency!

In the event of rain, our partners listed above will be inside the library visiting kids about their work, taking photos, and sharing information while their vehicles will still be available to view at the Oxford Park Commission's Skate Park across the street.

Collection efforts are now complete. We ask residents not to place any debris out on the roadside to help avoid potential safety hazards.

We are coming to the deadline to get assistance from damage you might have had from winter storm fern.

Lafayette County, Miss. — Any resident who sustained damage from Winter Storm Fern and have not yet applied for federal assistance or who need help with an existing application have a final opportunity to meet in person with representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).

Staff will be available Monday and Tuesday, June 8–9, at the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Harmontown Substation, 14 County Road 517, Como, Mississippi 38619, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. No appointment is necessary, and walk-ins are welcome. You do NOT have to be a resident of Lafayette County. Anyone that who sustained damge is welcome.

The deadline to apply for FEMA individual assistance is Wednesday, June 10. Residents are strongly encouraged to take advantage of this in-person event before the application window closes.

Whether applying for the first time or seeking assistance with a previously submitted application, FEMA and SBA staff will be on hand to answer questions, review documentation, and guide residents through the process.

“Time is running out for residents who were affected by Winter Storm Fern to get the help they need and deserve,” said Beau Moore, PIO for the Lafayette County. “This in-person event in Harmontown is a critical resource. We encourage anyone who has not yet applied or who has questions about an existing application to come out and speak directly with FEMA and SBA staff before the June 10 deadline.”

Roundabout construction will begin Monday morning on the east side of the CR 101, CR 166, and CR 1032 intersection area at the Max D. Hipp Lafayette County Industrial Park near Wi******er.

The intersection will remain open, but drivers should be prepared for narrow lanes and occasional delays while work is underway. The flashing red light will be disconnected, but it remains a four way stop.

Please use caution in the area and choose an alternate route when possible.
