Good afternoon from the Swing Shift (Rich and Carol)!!

Well through Monday, it's looking warm and dry across Southwestern California. Afternoon temperatures on Sunday and Monday are expected to top out in the 70s along the coast, but the 80s to lower 90s across the valleys and interior sections. Temperatures will be 5-10 degrees above seasonal normals. At this time, no significant heat risk issues are expected.

As the temperatures rise, breezy and dry conditions will develop acorss the area. Tonight through Sunday night, southwest to northwest winds, gusting 30-50 MPH, can be expected across the Central Coast, Santa Ynez Mountains, I-5 Corridor and the Antelope Valley. With minimum relative humidtiy dropping into the 10-25% range away from the coast, there will be an elevated fire weather risk with an enhanced potential for grass and brush fires.

For Tuesday through the rest of next week, there will be some slight cooling west of the mountains, but some warming across interior sections. An elevated risk of grass and brush fires will continue across interior sections with gusty onshore winds and continued low relative humidity.

Have a great weekend and stay cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good afternoon from the Swing Shift (Rich and Kristan)!!!!

For mid-May, we are expecting a decent amount of weather issues this weekend. First, some strong and gusty west to northwest winds are expected across the mountains and deserts as well as southern Santa Barbara county. In these areas, peak wind gusts of 35-55 MPH are likely with possibly isolated gusts in excess of 60 MPH. At the same time, dry conditions are expected with humidity dropping into the 8-15% range across interior sections and 20-30% across southern Santa Barbara county. So, ELEVATED to BRIEF CRITICAL fire weather conditions are likely this weekend. There will be a heightened risk of fast-moving grass and shrub fires.

At the coast and across the coastal waters, there will also be some issues. Northwest winds, gusting 25-45 knots, will develop and various Gale and Small Craft Advisory products are currently in effect. Along with winds, seas will be on the increase this weekend and will generate elevated to high surf conditions along the local beaches.

Overall, be heads up this weekend. If you live the the foothills or interior sections, be ready for any fast-moving fires and be very careful with any potential ignition source. If you're going to the beach, be very careful and listen to the lifeguards.

We hope everyone has a great evening and a great weekend!!!!

Happy Mother's Day from the Swing Shift (Rich, Kristen and Dave)!!!!

Well, warm and dry weather is expected to continue through Tuesday. At this time, Monday looks to be the warmest day with high temperatures climbing into the 88-102 range away from the coast. The persistent marine layer influence (the morning low clouds and fog) will keep the coastal plain cooler.

With the warm and dry conditions, fire weather will be a growing concern. Currently, elevated to brief critical fire weather conditions are expected across interior sections (foothills, mountains and deserts) through Tuesday. The combination of low relative humidity (6-20%), warm temperatures, south to southwest winds (gusts 25-45 MPH) and drying vegetation will bring the elevated to brief critical fire weather conditions.

For Wednesday through Friday, conditions will moderate with cooler temperatures and higher relative humidity.

Hope you enjoy your Mother's Day!!!!!!

Good evening from the Swing Shift (Rich and Carol)!!!!!

Well, the forecast remains relatively unchanged this evening. A continued cooling trend can be expected through Tuesday with even some rainfall Monday through Tuesday night.

At this time, the current rainfall projections (seen on the attached graphic) range from 0.50"-1.50" inches across San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties and 0.10"-0.50" across Ventura and Los Angeles counties. Some foothill areas could receive locally higher amounts, especially across northwest San Luis Obispo county and the Santa Ynez Mountains. Additionally, there will be a slight chance of thunderstorms across San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties.

Overall, impacts from this rainfall are expected to be minimal. There could be some minor nuisance flooding, especially in low-lying areas. Rainfall rates are not expected to be problematic with respect to recent burn scars.

After this rain, things will dry out and warmup the second half of the week.

Hope you have a great rest of your weekend!!!!!!!!!!!
