Continuous improvement is the name of the game. Each and every day, AMR and Gold Coast Ambulance leadership are connecting with one another, and our crews, to assess clinical processes and outcomes, to evaluate efficiency of our equipment and technology, and to monitor the needs of our community members — all in order to continue improving and enhancing the level of care we provide. This is ongoing, daily work. It matters.

Beyond providing fast and responsive emergency care, AMR and Gold Coast Ambulance crews can often be spotted supporting school, organization and community events with hands-only CPR training, safety talks, equipment/ambulance tours (touch-a-trucks), standby services and more!

Building a relationship with our community plays a huge role in developing trust with community members, and that makes a huge difference in times of crisis, when fear and panic are present. Come get to know our crews or invite us out to support one of your events. Let's continue strengthening the safety of our community together!

When it comes to providing equitable, accessible and responsive care, AMR and Gold Coast Ambulance take this responsibility seriously. Our paramedics and EMTs know first-hand how critical every second is when an emergency arises and a community member needs medical care. This past year, our crews provided 470+ weekly hours above our contracted hours to help keep our community safe. We are proud to call Ventura County home — you can count on us when it matters most.

Every day can look different when you're an EMT or paramedic with AMR/Gold Coast Ambulance. You might be working with a local Girl Scouts troop on a Monday morning to support them with their CPR skills training, while later that afternoon, you're helping a kiddo feel comfortable in navigating the hospital hallways. No matter the need, our crews work hard to be reliable, trusted partners in health and safety.

We’re wrapping up National CPR & AED Awareness Week, and we wanted to take a moment to encourage you and your family members to learn how to perform CPR or use an automated external defibrillator (AED), in the event of an emergency.

AMR & Gold Coast Ambulance are proud to partner with our community on this — having trained more than 51,000 community members in hands-only CPR since 2014. More often than not, you’ll find us stationed at community events throughout the county, set up and ready to provide you free training.

You can also get trained through Red Cross. To find classes near you, visit: https://www.redcross.org/take-a-class

Winter holidays create lots of opportunities to come together and celebrate with friends and loved ones. They are also a time of increased fire risk and accidents in the home. We offer these guidelines to help keep your holiday season safe.

1. Holiday entertaining – keep an eye on the range (unattended cooking is the leading cause of house fires) and make sure your smoke detectors are working.
2. Holiday lighting – use causing with decorations and choose flame-resistant, flame-retardant and non-combustible materials when possible. Use only certified light for outdoor decorating.
3. Indoor decorations – choose decorations made of non-leaded materials. Keep candles away from children, decorations and live plants.
4. Tree – check for freshness when purchasing a live tree (green with needles hard to pull from branches) and look for a “fire-resistant” label when purchasing an artificial tree.
5. Fire prevention – always turn off your decorations when you leave your home and when you’re sleeping. Most deadly fires happen while people are asleep.

In response to the County of Ventura - Government's Red Flag Warning and the current fires, AMR and Gold Coast Ambulance have upstaffed an additional five ambulances in the 9-1-1 system today. The additional staffing will assist with the extra call volume expected as a result of the poor air quality, while allowing the Ventura County Fire Department first responders to focus on fire response. Several AMR Ventura County and GCA crews have been assigned to the fire and are also assisting with evacuations, and we are prepared to add additional staffing as needed to support the Ventura County community.

We have a few safety tip reminders for Ventura County residents as the warning and fires resume:

• Take evacuation orders seriously.
• Avoid the roads if you can. If you do need to travel, watch for debris and areas impacted by the current fires.
• Charge electronics and have batteries ready for flashlights, as power outages are likely.
• Secure outdoor items.
• If possible, stay indoors to limit exposure to smoke and pollutants. Close windows and doors and run air conditioners in recirculation mode to prevent outside air from entering the home.
• If going outside is necessary, wear a well-fitted mask.
• When outside, avoid overexertion. Strenuous activities will put stress on the lungs, which are already working hard to filter through the polluted air.

Fire moves fast. Follow these tips to ensure your family is prepared with a plan for evacuation.

• Prepare a to-go bag now, in order to be able to leave immediately if needed, that includes important paper, pictures/valuables, prescriptions and communications devices/chargers.
• Be sure everyone in your home knows the plan for exit.
• Choose an outside meeting place a safe distance from your house where everyone can meet at after successfully evacuating.
• Make sure everyone in your house knows how to call 911 for emergencies.
