Grateful for our state leadership, today Senator Limón presented two checks for state funding she secured for : $7.5 million to convert a county-owned building into a homeless transition center/permanent supportive housing and $5.5 million for a new Nyeland Acres Community Center. Thank you Assemblymember Bennett and Assemblymember Irwin for also supporting these projects in the Assembly.

Still processing this tremendous loss for our community. Supervisor Ramirez leaves a mark in all of us. She was an inspiration, a hero, a friend, a mentor, a colleague, supporter and a champion in many ways. I am personally grateful for the moments I shared with her, from my first interaction working with her on an immigration related case when I began my work in public service, to serving alongside her on the city council, to the recent Oxnard council meeting where she stayed until the early morning hours supporting me to ensure a resolution passed in support of Women’s rights and access to abortion and reproductive health services. She was a tremendous supported and ally. Carmen, you will be so missed. 🙏🏽

The pandemic reaffirmed the importance of unity and strong partnerships in serving others. For this reason, I humbly accepted the 2022 Marilyn Valenzuela Working Families Champion Award at this year’s Labor Leader of the Year Dinner.
