Here are a few adjustments since the email briefing on Tuesday afternoon. See attached graphics:

• The Heat Advisory has been upgraded to an Extreme Heat Warning for the entire Florida Big Bend region, the eastern Florida Panhandle, and far South Georgia. Within the warning area, heat index values of up to 116 degrees are forecast.

• The Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) of severe thunderstorms today has expanded to cover more counties.

• There is now a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) of severe thunderstorms on Thursday.

Today's thunderstorms are expected to be potent. A Slight Risk implies that a Severe Thunderstorm Watch may eventually be needed later today. Storm attributes will include:

• Damaging wind gusts, potentially up to 70 mph!
• Torrential downpours which could lead to isolated flash flooding if storms repeatedly train over the same location
• Large hail... to the size of quarters. That is 1 inch in diameter.
• Prolific lightning
• Timing: Thunderstorms are expected to develop and quickly turn severe around mid-afternoon, then last well into the evening, perhaps as late as midnight.

Hot, hot, hot! Today's heat index today is expected to reach 105-115 degrees, with the hotter values within the Extreme Heat Warning. On Wednesday, the heat index should be just as hot or a little hotter. Take every precaution to stay cool in this high-end heat.

⛈️On Wednesday afternoon and evening, strong to severe storms will erupt, marking the beginning of the end for this heat wave. Storms will be especially spicy, bringing isolated damaging gusts, torrential downpours, prolific lightning, and perhaps some hail.

Main Points:
• A heat wave will be underway from today through Wednesday.
• Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected late Wednesday as the heat wave starts to break.

Overview:
Hot Weather: A heat wave will be underway from today through Wednesday, featuring well above normal temperatures and very muggy conditions. The net effect will be heat index values in excess of 110 degrees, most of all on Tuesday (the hottest day).

• A Heat Advisory is in effect for parts of the service area today.

• For the hottest day on Tuesday, an Extreme Heat Watch is currently in effect. Later today, this watch is likely to be upgraded to a Heat Advisory or an Extreme Heat Warning. Tuesday could feature some of the most dangerous heat that we face all summer.

Severe Storms Wednesday: Strong to severe storms will erupt on Wednesday afternoon and evening, as the heat wave first starts to break. Thunderstorms that arrive on the back end of a heat wave typically pack quite a punch. The main concerns will be 1) isolated damaging wind gusts, 2) prolific lightning, and 3) nuisance flooding from torrential downpours. Large hail is also possible. There is a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) of severe thunderstorms on Wednesday.
Beach Hazards: Today features another High Rip Current Risk along Walton, Bay, and Gulf County beaches.

Tropical Depression Two became Tropical Storm Bertha yesterday evening but the impacts across our area have largely remained unchanged as confidence for Bertha's core to remain well southwest of the region have went up overnight.

However, peripheral impacts in the form of gusty winds, heavy rain at times potentially causing flooding, minor coastal flooding, and dangerous marine conditions (including life-threatening rip currents and high surf) are still expected. Most of these peripheral impacts from Bertha will be felt today through Wednesday.

Good morning everyone!

Another dry day is in store today with lots of sunshine and low humidity. Highs will be in the mid 90s for most (near 90 at the beaches), and the heat index will be fairly close to the actual temperatures today.

For those looking ahead at Independence Day celebrations, some showers and storms return as humidity increases, and we'll also have some heat concerns as heat index values climb back to 105-110. We also maintain a moderate risk of rip currents along our beaches today and likely through the weekend.

Good morning y'all! Some drier air will move into the area beginning today, which means it will be slightly less humid. We do not have any Heat Advisories today with heat index values today "only" in the 100-105° range. The actual air temperatures will still be in the mid to upper 90s away from the coast. Rain chances will be confined to the southeast Big Bend this afternoon, and a stray storm can't be ruled out near the Emerald Coast this afternoon.

For the upcoming holiday weekend, heat and humidity may build once again to near advisory levels in some spots. Rain chances will also increase just in time for the Independence Day celebrations. We'll have more updates on the forecast as we get closer, but it'll be mostly our typical summer storms.

Bottom Line:
One last day of potentially dangerous heat is forecast today before drier air moves in on Wednesday. Strong to possibly severe storms are possible this afternoon west of the Apalachicola and Flint Rivers.

Heat Advisory:
A Heat Advisory is in effect for southeast Alabama, far southwestern Georgia, and the Florida Panhandle and western Big Bend for this afternoon. High temperatures this afternoon will reach the mid to possibly upper 90s. Heat index values in the advisory area could reach 108-112 degrees before thunderstorms develop. Outside of the advisory area, most places will see heat index values of 104-107. Drier air arrives tomorrow, so while the actual temperatures will still be in the mid to upper 90s, heat index values will be closer to 100-105.

Severe Potential This Afternoon:
A weak cold front, the afternoon sea breeze, and a remnant boundary from yesterday's storms from eastern Georgia will combine to produce scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms this afternoon. The greatest chance of storms will be over the Florida Panhandle and Big Bend, southeast Alabama, and adjacent south Georgia. The atmosphere will be highly unstable thanks to the heat and humidity, and storms that develop will be capable of producing strong, potentially damaging wind gusts. While any storms could produce strong wind gusts, the highest threat of severe storms is west of the Apalachicola and Flint Rivers, where a Marginal Risk of severe weather (level 1 of 5) is in place for this afternoon and evening. Timing of development is mostly after 2 PM ET/1 PM CT, gradually fading and moving offshore during the evening. Storms today will move from the east-northeast toward the west-southwest.

A Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) of severe weather exists for the entire region today.

Bottom Line:
Moisture associated with the remnants of Arthur continues to move across the Tri-State as it merges with a cold front. A Flood Watch remains in effect today for Southeast Alabama, the Florida Panhandle, and portions of Southwest Georgia, which closely aligns with a Moderate Risk (Level 3 of 4) of Excessive Rainfall; there is a Marginal (Level 1 of 4) to Slight (Level 2 of 4) Risk of Excessive Rainfall elsewhere.

Overview:
Flood Potential: Heavy rainfall is the primary concern at this time. A Moderate Risk (Level 3 of 4) of Excessive Rainfall exists across Southeast Alabama. A Moderate Risk of Excessive Rainfall implies the potential for numerous flash floods, especially where higher end totals occur (A Reasonable Worst-Case Scenario), and may only occur a few times per year. Rainfall totals are generally forecast between 3" to 7" through tonight (including yesterday), but there is the potential for a Reasonable Worst-Case Scenario of 8” to 12” especially in Southeastern Alabama. These amounts over a short period may result in dangerous and life-threatening flash flooding.

There is also the potential for minor river flooding along the Choctawhatchee, Pea, and Shoal River basins should very heavy rainfall occur. Moderate river flooding cannot be ruled out if the high-end totals materialize, mainly on the Choctawhatchee and Shoal.

Severe Potential: In terms of severe weather, there is the potential for some strong to severe thunderstorms capable of producing isolated to scattered damaging wind gusts today. A Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for Severe Thunderstorms remains in place across the region today.

Beach Conditions: There is a high risk of rip currents along the Walton, Bay, and Gulf County beaches through Sunday, and the Franklin County beaches through Saturday. A High Surf Advisory is also in effect for Walton and Bay County beaches through late Friday morning with surf up to 6 feet and minor beach erosion.
