Work on Hwy. 186 between Altus and I-40 at Wiederkehr Village is expected to start soon. The project will consist of patching, shoulder widening, surface sealing, and resurfacing. There will be alternating lane closures, with traffic controlled by flaggers, cones, and signs. If you travel this route frequently, plan for delays over the course of the project.

An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect from noon to 8PM Tuesday for parts of eastern Oklahoma into the Arkansas River Valley of western Arkansas for heat index values in excess of 110 degrees. A Heat Advisory is in effect for the rest of the forecast area. Expect peak heat index values up to 109 within the advisory area. Continue to take heat safety precautions.

Gusty winds and brief heavy rain will accompany any storms. Measurable rainfall will remain spotty Tuesday afternoon but increases with the front Wednesday night.

[3:10 pm - 9/7/26] Showers and thunderstorms continue to develop across eastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas, with near stationary to slow, erratic movements. The strongest storms may produce gusty winds to 60 mph and cloud-to-ground lightning.

Through the afternoon, cloud-to-ground lightning, brief moderate rain and gusty winds can be expected with the strongest storms.
