Lori4PG Lori McDonnell – A Responsible Voice For PG

Pacific Grove is unique with its combination of ocean and forest habitat in such a small area.

Lori is a medical researcher for Stanford University's School of Medicine and an active resident of Pacific Grove who participates in environmental organizations committed to research and education about our local wildlife. We can enjoy the ocean and beaches and within minutes be in the middle of the forest. We are fortunate to have this incredible ecologic diversity in our own backyards, and I be

lieve it is important to ensure that we protect this amazing asset for future generations. What Do I Stand For

If elected my top priorities for supporting our community and our natural resources include:

* Protecting Our Natural Resources

Our natural environment is one of our city’s greatest assets. We are fortunate to be stewards of a world renowned marine protected area. People travel from all over to witness the beauty of our amazing array of Flora and Fauna. This biological diversity is what drew me to our beautiful city so I can take part in research that informs and educates to ensure the protection of this critical asset. I am active in the community, performing volunteer research through the PG Museum of Natural History and working with BayNet volunteers to monitor our local marine mammal population. I enjoy educating people about our natural environment so they can better appreciate our natural resources and look forward to returning again and again to witness the natural beauty and charm of our city and coastline.

* Affordable Housing

As a renter I'm vitally concerned about affordable housing and would focus on identifying and pursuing opportunities to enable our residents to continue to work and live here. I would support finding creative solutions to our housing crisis by pursuing local and state funding to ensure new housing is developed to support our local families, seniors, and workers. One of our biggest challenges is the water restrictions imposed by the state, so it will require that we find creative solutions such as ADUs to meet our housing needs.

* Support for Residence, Businesses, and Environment

I believe it is important to support the needs of residents, businesses, and the environment, as all these elements are vital to a thriving community. I strongly believe that we can meet the need for city progress and business development while also preserving and maintaining the natural beauty that is treasured by locals and visitors alike. Pacific Grove is beloved for its charm and community feeling that goes hand in hand with our stunning natural environment. Eco-tourism is one of the largest growing travel niches. Being responsible stewards of our natural resources ensures that we continue to draw visitors who value our natural assets and support our local businesses, which in turn provides funding to support our entire community. I would therefore support solutions to help rebuild a thriving business community that complements our natural assets and supports our residents with jobs, services and a stronger sense of community.

* Utilizing community resources

I believe we can address many of our city’s needs by utilizing the extensive knowledge and expertise of our local community. We are fortunate to have highly-educated and experienced residents who volunteer their time to support our community. By utilizing this wealth of knowledge amongst us, we can ensure we maintain the city assets needed to implement real solutions to our problems/challenges.
