Discover legendary park ranger Betty Reid Soskin’s inspiring work and urgent mission to restore missing chapters of America’s story. 🙌

On Saturday, July 18th at 2:00, join us in the Chapel to view “No Time to Waste.” This documentary captures her fascinating life — from the experiences of a young Black woman in a WWII segregated union hall, through her multi-faceted career as a singer, activist, mother, legislative representative and park planner to her public role at the Rosie the Riveter WWII Home Front. Betty illuminated the invisible histories of African Americans and other people of color. 💪

This event is free and open to all ages. RSVPs are required- please register on Eventbrite (link in the "About" tab). Refreshments will be available courtesy of Asilomar’s concessionaire, Aramark!

Happy Pride Month! 🏳️‍🌈🥳 The California Natural Resources Agency and the California Environmental Protection Agency are celebrating Pride Month with the theme "Exist. Resist. Have the Audacity." You can read the agencies' official statement at resources.ca.gov/Pride

When we look at nature, it's easy to see many different kinds of strength. Tide pool animals that cling tightly to the rocks. Cypress and pines standing tall against the wind. Kelp that bends and sways, but doesn't break. The theme "Exist. Resist. Have the Audacity." reminds us that Pride Month is only possible because of a legacy of resistance and bold leadership.

We affirm that Asilomar State Beach and Conference Grounds is a place for everyone. We are proud to support the LGBTQ+ community and their right to live out loud.

Happy Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month! 🥳 Today, we are highlighting the life of Miya Sannomiya Kikuchi. 🇯🇵🇺🇸

Miya was a leader in many ways. Like many other children of immigrants, she had to navigate living in two worlds while not fitting into either. Her time with the YWCA, and especially her time at Asilomar, showed her what it’s like to live in true equality with people from different backgrounds. That experience helped her become a cultural ambassador, advocating for unity and understanding across racial and cultural divides.

Sea slugs are spectacular tidepool treasures—and we need your help finding them! 🔍 Join staff from California State Parks and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife on Saturday, May 23 from 10-1 to share your sea slug observations during the first-ever Sea Slug Search. This is part of the summer Snapshot Cal Coast campaigns run by the Center for Biodiversity and Community Science at the Cal Academy. Use iNaturalist to help fill data gaps and deepen our understanding of sea slug diversity! 🥳

Sea slugs are colorful, diverse, and often overlooked indicators of intertidal ecosystem health. By bringing together community scientists, researchers, and tidepoolers to document nudibranchs along the California coast, we can create a powerful snapshot of sea slug diversity, abundance, and distribution that can be used to track change over time. 💪

Happy ! Let’s go on an adventure in the tidepools! 🌊

There is so much to see and appreciate when the tides are low! These were our findings during the most recent set of King Tides. 🦀 When observing these intertidal creatures in their element, be gentle when touching them and watch out for any waves that may be rushing in. 👀

Asilomar State Beach and its adjacent marine protected area mean there is extra protection and regulations for these creatures. Remember to leave anything cool you see behind, so others can enjoy finding them too! 🙌

If you are interested in learning more about tidepools, join us for a sea slug scavenger hunt on Saturday, May 23rd! California State Parks staff and volunteers will be on the main beach from 10 AM-1 PM to help visitors find tidepool life. 🫧
