"Indivisible has created a tool that allows members to call progressives in states like Iowa, talk to them about impeachment, and then patch them through to their senators’ offices. In Oregon, he said, some people have been hosting calling parties."

Voters who fear a Trump re-election can start rebuilding the blue wall now.

Congressional Democrats "need to have a single spokesman, Representative Adam Schiff, and everyone else needs to keep quiet. They need to have professional prosecutors, not uninformed legislators, question witnesses; they need to keep the focus on the nonpolitical witnesses; and they need to have their presidential candidates stay out of this impeachment story and concentrate on their ideas for reviving and reuniting America."

There’s an approach that avoids both a “civil war” and Trump’s guaranteed re-election.

"When you combine Mr. Trump pushing moderates out of the Republican Party and the changing attitudes his rhetoric and policies have brought about with the Democrats’ pro-government fervor, you have a recipe for transformation. Democrats should be looking not just to defeat Donald Trump and the Republican Party, but to get to work building a bold era of progressive reform."

This is a transformational moment. Do the Democrats understand how to take advantage of it?

Most of the Democratic Party’s agenda is popular with the public, but several ideas being pushed by the 2020 presidential candidates — the end of private health insurance, the decriminalization of border crossings, and slavery reparations — are deeply unpopular.

The 2020 election is too important.

When conservatives tout “freedom,” it’s usually in very particular ways, including the freedom to sink or swim depending on your own socioeconomic status. Likewise, when they want to “deregulate,” it depends on who's being regulated. Petro good, must get perks; solar bad, must die.

Trust the pork producers; fear the wind turbines.

Maybe we’re wrong about the Mueller findings. Maybe he just said, “OMG, where do I even begin to indict all these criminals and sleazeballs? So much to do, so little time. Life's short, and I’m semi-retired…let Congress deal with it.”

Trump may not be indicted while president, but maybe he'll be compelled to testify under oath to Congress. How cool would that be?

"Modern conservatives hate the idea of any kind of new public spending, even if it would make Americans better off — or perhaps it would be more accurate to say especially if it would make Americans better off, because a successful spending program might help legitimize a positive role for government in general."

Infrastructure won’t happen until the Democrats regain control.

If Donald Trump is removed via impeachment and conviction, "Republicans can say, 'See, we’ve come to our senses; got that out of our system.' But if they renominate Mr. Trump and stick with him through November 2020 and the voters clearly say no, not again, Republicans are left sitting in the wreckage. They will be trying to air out the Trump stench for a generation, maybe two, which is precisely the fate they deserve."

Impeachment is tempting. But there’s a stronger case for waiting for the 2020 election.
