Today, we joined veterans, families, community leaders, and residents at the Pacifica American Legion Post 238 Annual Memorial Day Ceremony to remember and honor the courageous men and women who gave their lives in service to our nation. ♥🤍💙

As we gather with family and friends, we encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of Memorial Day and the profound sacrifices made by our fallen service members and the families they left behind.

🎓Please join us in congratulating Corporal Eric Martinez and Officer Angel Castro on their graduation from the 31st Annual Inner Perspectives Leadership Development Program. 🎉

Over the past six months, they strengthened their leadership skills, professional judgment, and ability to lead effectively in today’s policing environment. Their commitment reflects the culture we strive to build at the Pacifica Police Department through mentorship, growth, and service to the community.

We are proud to support opportunities that invest in our people and help prepare the next generation of law enforcement leaders. Congratulations to Corporal Martinez and Officer Castro on this outstanding achievement.

San Mateo County's draft Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP) is open for public comment.

The LHMP identifies our risks from wildfires, flooding, earthquakes, severe weather, other natural hazards, and outlines actions to reduce damage before disasters happen. It also keeps San Mateo County’s 20 cities, unincorporated communities, and special districts eligible for federal hazard mitigation funding.

We want input from residents, businesses, and community organizations. Tell us where the plan is strong, what it misses, and what you would add.

🗓 Public comment: May 15 to June 15

Obey traffic laws, wear your seat belt, and avoid distractions.

May is an important traffic safety month, and the Pacifica Police Department reminds everyone to be responsible drivers, passengers, bicyclists, and pedestrians. May is both Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month and National Bicycle Safety Month, and it also includes the “Click It or Ticket” campaign from May 18–31.

As warmer weather brings more motorcycles to the road, drivers are encouraged to look twice for motorcycles, check mirrors and blind spots before changing lanes, maintain safe following distances, and always use proper signals. Staying alert helps prevent crashes and save lives. 🏍️

These same safety tips apply to bicyclists. Please watch for children, adults, and seniors biking for transportation, exercise, or recreation. Cyclists have less protection than vehicle occupants, so drivers should obey speed limits, use extra caution at intersections, and never drive or bike while distracted or impaired. 🚲

For the “Click It or Ticket” campaign, all drivers and passengers should buckle up, and children must be secured in the appropriate car seat based on height and weight. We want every trip - short or long- to end safely, so please buckle up! Review CHP child safety seat guidelines here: www.chp.ca.gov/programs-services/programs/child-safety-seats. 🚗

Let’s work together to keep everyone safe on the road and reduce preventable injuries and tragedies. Stay alert, save lives!

Service, Sacrifice, and Remembrance 💙

Members of the Pacifica Police Department joined our public safety partners from across San Mateo County to honor the courageous peace officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities.

We were humbled to stand alongside the families, friends, and colleagues of these fallen heroes during the annual Fallen Peace Officers Memorial Ceremony presented by the 100 Club of San Mateo County and the San Mateo County Police Chiefs and Sheriff Association.

Their dedication, bravery, and selfless service will never be forgotten. We remain committed to honoring their memory and carrying forward the values they embodied through our continued service to the City of Pacifica community.

Please join us in remembering and honoring those who gave their lives in the line of duty. 💙

🎓 Congratulations to the Community Academy Class of 2026! 🥳🎊🎉

And just like that, our 11-week Community Academy has come to a close! After weeks of learning, discussion, and engagement, we are proud to recognize our Community Academy Class of 2026.
Throughout the academy, participants had the opportunity to learn about our officers, hiring practices, emergency preparedness, de-escalation tactics, K9 officers, mental health and wellness, evidence and forensics, and community-based policing.

While some topics and course material were not always easy, we are incredibly grateful to our participants for leaning in, asking thoughtful questions, and engaging in meaningful conversations along the way.

We also want to extend our sincere thanks to the officers and staff who dedicated their time to teaching classes and sharing their personal and professional experiences with openness and honesty.

The Community Academy is an important opportunity for us to educate the public about the work we do at the Pacifica Police Department while also learning from our community about how we can continue to serve and support you.

Thank you again to everyone who participated, and we hope to see many more community members join us in the future.

Up next, the 2027 Teen Academy!
