Today, Pageland Rescue Squad hosted our Annual Prom Night Crash Drama for the seniors and juniors of Central High School. This mock crash scenario is designed to show students the very real and devastating effects of impaired and distracted driving.

Students from Central FFA participated as victims in the crash, helping us create a powerful and realistic demonstration.

Pageland Rescue Squad was assisted by several area agencies, including Pageland Fire Department, Highpoint Fire District, Sandhill Fire Department, Jefferson Rescue Squad, Lifeguard EMS, Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office, Chesterfield County Coroner’s Office, MedCenter Air, and Baumgartner’s Funeral Home. Each agency played a vital role in making this event as impactful and realistic as possible.

We would like to thank Central High School for allowing us to present this demonstration. A special thank you to Jessica McManus of Central FFA/Pageland & Jefferson Rescue, and Thomas J. Catoe with Sandhill Fire for their hard work and dedication in making today possible.

Finally, we thank all agencies involved—this truly was a team effort.

To all students attending prom: we hope you have a safe and memorable night. Please make smart decisions and look out for one another so everyone makes it home safely.

The threat of a moderate to severe ice storm is looming for our area and we want to pass along a few safety tips.

⚠️ POWER OUTAGE SAFETY REMINDER ⚠️

🔥 Heating:
• NEVER use grills, propane heaters, or gas stoves indoors unless they are specifically rated for indoor use
• Keep heaters 3+ feet from anything that can burn
• Make sure working CO (carbon monoxide) alarms are installed

⚡ Generators:
• OUTDOORS ONLY — at least 20 feet from buildings, windows, and doors
• NEVER backfeed a home without a transfer switch
• Let generators cool before refueling

🚑 Carbon monoxide is invisible and deadly. If you feel dizzy, nauseous, or unusually tired — GET OUT and call 911.

🚨 Training in Action 🚨

This evening, Pageland Rescue Squad members conducted a Rural Search and Rescue training exercise.

The scenario: A deer hunter who never returned home from a hunting trip. With only limited information on the patient’s possible location, our team carried out a search through wooded areas, working to first locate the patient, then safely package and transport them using our Kubota RTV Medical Transport unit.

These real-life training scenarios are designed to better prepare our responders for true emergencies. Every skill gained and sharpened during these exercises can mean the difference between life and death when seconds count.

We are proud of our dedicated members who continually train to serve and protect our community.

❤️ Benefit for Sean Davis • Monday, July 21 ❤️

This past Friday night, our community lost one of its own. 17 year old Sean Davis, was tragically taken from this world by a senseless act of violence. It’s a loss that has shaken Pageland to its core. By all accounts, Sean was a loving son, great friend, and athlete.

Tomorrow, Monday, July 21 from 2PM–8PM, Fox Place Grill will be hosting a Benefit Lunch & Dinner in Sean’s honor. We invite the entire community to come out and show love and support to the Davis family during this unimaginable time.

We’ll be offering:
🍗 Chicken Wing Plates(6wings/fries/drink)
🍔 Burger Plates(Burger/fries/drink)
📍203 W Mcgregor St Pageland, SC
-$15 per plate — 100% of proceeds go directly to Sean’s family

Let’s unite as a community so that no other family has to endure this kind of heartbreak. One child lost is one too many.

From all of us at JJR Partners — our deepest condolences go out to the Davis family, Central High School, and every soul affected by this tragedy. We mourn with you. We stand with you. And we remember Sean — together.

On Monday, May 5th, 2025, local responders including Pageland Rescue, Pageland Fire, SandHill Fire Department, High Point Fire Department, Jefferson Rescue, Chesterfield County Sheriff Department, LifeGuard EMS, MedCenter Air, GasMan Ministries, and Baumgartner Funeral Home, gathered at the Central High School to conduct our annual “Prom Crash Drama.” The focus of the event is to remind students of the consequences of impaired driving. In the scene, three cars, donated by Carolina Scrap Iron, were staged with “victims” who were Central high Students, dressed up with simulated injuries.

Upon arrival of first responders, trained extrication specialists immediately started evaluating the scene and began to use a variety of extrication tools to safely remove the patients from the wreckage. As in real life, a number of the injured were declared Dead On Scene to reflect the true cost of impaired driving. One of the victims, who was declared critical, was securely packaged and loaded into the arriving MedCenter Air Helicopter. In closing, Chief Tommy Catoe reminded students that using cell phones while driving is equally bad as driving while under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

This was a special production this year as all of the first responders demonstrated their support for one of our own, Jeremy “GasMan” Johnson, who has begun a battle with stomach cancer. Our local first responder community is a family and we support each other whenever or wherever it’s needed.

We hope the community will join us for a Fish Fry on May 31, 2025 at the Pageland Community Center where we will celebrate Jeremy with food and fellowship. In addition to crispy fried fish, hamburgers, hot dogs, drinks and, of course, watermelon will be available. Jeremy serves the Pageland community as the Lieutenant for Training at the Pageland Rescue Squad and as a Firefighter II - Chaplin at the Pageland Fire Department. Let’s show him how much we appreciated his dedication and sacrifice for our community.
