Planning to celebrate Memorial Day? Please remember—most fireworks are illegal in Colorado. 🎇

🚫 Fireworks that explode or leave the ground are prohibited
🔥 Even sparklers can easily start fires in our dry conditions
🧒 Never allow children to handle fireworks
💧 Keep water nearby and be prepared in case of fire

From all of us at Pagosa Fire Protection District, thank you for helping protect our community and prevent wildfires this holiday weekend.

Good morning Archuleta County,

The temporary burn ban that was implemented on Monday morning, May 18th, has been lifted.

Burning operations may continue in line with Archuleta County Ordinance 18-2017, to include Pagosa Fire Protection District, and Los Pinos Fire District permit conditions.

As always, we will continue to monitor conditions and may impose temporary bans during periods of adverse weather conditions.

Please burn safely and responsibly.

As temperatures rise and conditions dry out, it’s important to stay informed before you burn.

A reminder from Pagosa Fire Protection District:
📄 A burn permit is required for open burning
🌬️ Always check current weather and wind conditions before burning
🚫 Never burn on red flag warning days
💧 Keep water, tools, and a way to extinguish your fire nearby at all times
👀 Never leave a fire unattended

Burning without proper precautions can quickly lead to wildfire.

Let’s work together to keep our community safe.

Monday, May 18th, 2026, @ 08:30 - Archuleta County:

There will be a temporary burn ban in effect for all open permitted burns within Archuleta County, effective immediately.

Due to the current conditions, particularly with the current wind event, we are shutting down the agricultural and permitted burn process for an abundance of safety.

We will continue to monitor the situation carefully, and reevaluate the process over the next few days. Our intent is to lift the temporary burn ban at the earliest possible convenience.

Enjoy those spring nights responsibly! Keep your fire pit 10 feet from anything flammable, never leave it unattended, and always have water or sand nearby.
