Big news for Build Pagosa and our community!

Build Pagosa recently celebrated the award of a $1M grant from USDA Rural Development for the Regional Workforce Center, joined by representatives from the Small Business Administration, Pagosa Springs Community Development Corporation, and other key partners.

The center is being funded primarily through competitive grants and private donations, not through a new local tax or tax increase.

This new workforce hub will create hands-on education, skilled-trade training and career opportunities for local students and adults, while helping local employers find the skilled workers they need.

Build Pagosa would like to thank the Pagosa Springs Community Development Corporation and its many amazing partners who have been key to bringing this project to life. Thank you to everyone whose vision, collaboration, and hard work are helping build a stronger future for Pagosa Springs and Southwest Colorado.

Rio Blanco Fire - HOW TO HELP

In times of crisis, people naturally want to reach out and help. Your compassion and concern have been heartfelt and deeply appreciated. While your willingness to help comes from the right place, the first responders have all the food and drinks that they need. We encourage you, instead, to support your neighbors who may be displaced from their homes. Below are some ways you can help both firefighters and those impacted by the fire.

How you can help:

➩Create defensible space - Defensible space around your home is absolutely the BEST thing you can give to firefighters. If you're not evacuated, make sure your driveway is clear of overgrowth and won’t block escape. Visit https://csfs.colostate.edu/wildfire-mitigation/protect-your-home-property-from-wildfire/

➩Send thank you notes to your local fire service or hang banners and signs where firefighters can see them.

➩Make a monetary donation to your local fire service or the Wildland Firefighter Foundation, who support injured, ill, or fallen wildland firefighters and their families in times of need: www.wffoundation.org

🚨 URGENT: VOLUNTEERS NEEDED BEGINNING TODAY 🚨

Patria Pagosa is preparing meals for approximately 350 firefighters, and they need our community’s help assembling and packing those meals starting this afternoon and continuing through Sunday, August 2.

Help is needed daily, July 31–August 2:

☀️ Morning shift: 4:00–6:00 a.m.
Assemble breakfast and lunches

🌙 Evening shift: 4:00–7:00 p.m.
Assemble dinner

📍 Patria Pagosa
920 San Juan St.

Today’s first shift begins at 4:00 p.m. Please step up if you are available—even helping for part of a shift can make a difference.

🏡 That’s a wrap on Phase 1!

Today we are celebrating the closing of the 10th and final home in Phase 1 of PSCDC’s Workforce Housing project. Ten homes, ten households, and ten new chapters of homeownership in Pagosa Springs.

This milestone represents partnership, persistence, problem-solving, and a shared belief that local workforce families deserve a real path to owning a home in the community they help keep running.

A very special thank you to Brent Christians and Team Christians, Galles Properties for generously donating their brokerage services and helping us bring this final Phase 1 home across the finish line. Your support made a meaningful difference.

Congratulations to Tyler Sharpless, our newest homeowner, and thank you to everyone who helped make Phase 1 possible.
