At the Regular Board of County Commissioners meeting on September 1, the Board recognized two Pagosa Springs Cadets for achieving major milestones in the Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program:

Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Maximus Ibram received the General Ira C. Eaker Award, earned by fewer than 5% of CAP Cadets nationwide.

Cadet Captain Nicoletta Ibram received the Amelia Earhart Award, recognizing advanced leadership and achievement as a Cadet Officer.

Congratulations to both Cadets on these outstanding accomplishments!

All Archuleta County administrative and elected offices, including the landfill and transfer station, will be closed on Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day. Normal business hours will resume on Tuesday, September 8. The Transfer Station will re-open Wednesday, September 9. As always, our dedicated first responders remain on duty.

Fire managers on the Pagosa Ranger District of the report the following updates this evening regarding multiple lightning-caused fires:

🔥Weminuche Creek Fire - Firefighters accessed this fire today and successfully contained it at 1/10th of an acre.

🔥Snow Springs Fire - Containment lines held overnight, and firefighters are continuing to mop up and secure the fire. They will resume efforts on the line tomorrow.

🔥Spring Basin Fire -Fire managers have reported this fire as out.

🔥Swiss Roll Fire - Aerial reconnaissance was conducted again today, showing no new growth and minimal smoke. The fire remains under daily monitoring.

Periodic moisture continues to be received over the area.

The Rio Blanco Fire road closure has been lifted.

Additional hazards are still present in the burned area but the fire is 100% contained. Travelers are being asked to avoid driving on NFS 653.B as it was damaged as a result of heavy fire traffic and will require additional repair when soil moisture content is higher. The likelihood of getting stuck or damaging a vehicle is very high.

Update 6:20 pm: Fire managers report that both the Snow Springs Fire and the Spring Basin Fire are now fully contained.

Aerial reconnaissance on the Swiss Roll Fire today confirmed no new growth, and the fire continues to be monitored daily. Periodic moisture continues to be received over the area.

Between 1st Street and Paul Hood Place (near Pagosa Springs) from Mile Point 144.4 to Mile Point 144.6. Road maintenance operations. Slower speeds are advised. There is alternating traffic.
