City of Pahokee Pahokee was incorporated in 1922. The name "Pahokee" means 'grassy waters' in the Creek language.

The City of Pahokee, incorporated in March 1922, is nestled at the shore of Lake Okeechobee and is known as the “Grassy Water Gateway To Lake Okeechobee”.

Locals refer to Pahokee as "The Muck" which refers to the mineral-rich dark soil in which sugarcane, citrus fruits and corn are grown by agribusinesses. It was once known as the "Winter Vegetable Capital of the World".

MLK Park Beautification Project – Volunteers Wanted!

The City of Pahokee invites residents, community organizations, nonprofits, churches, businesses, students, alumni, and community partners to come together for the MLK Park Beautification Project!

📍 Martin Luther King Jr. Park (380 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd E, Pahokee, FL 33476)

Come lend a helping hand as we work together to clean, refresh, and beautify MLK Park. Volunteer activities may include cleaning and general maintenance, painting and restoration, landscaping, and other beautification efforts.

Whether you are volunteering individually, participating with an organization, or looking for an opportunity to complete community service hours, we invite you to get involved and help make a difference in our community.

🚧⚠️ TRAFFIC ADVISORY ⚠️🚧

The City of Pahokee is sharing a traffic advisory from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) regarding an upcoming full roadway closure on S.R. 15/U.S. 441/U.S. 98/Conners Highway at the South Central Florida Express (SCFE) railroad crossing.

The closure is scheduled to begin Thursday, August 13, 2026, at 7:00 AM and is anticipated to remain in place through Monday, August 17, 2026, at 5:00 PM. If additional time is needed to complete the work, the closure may extend through Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at 7:00 AM.

The closure will allow SCFE contractors to perform necessary railroad crossing repairs.

Residents and travelers are encouraged to review the FDOT information flyer below for additional details, including traffic impacts and detour information.

🎟️ Prefer to purchase tickets ahead of time? Tickets may be pre-purchased at City Hall during normal business hours using cash or other accepted forms of payment.
