👍 SUCCESSFUL RESCUE ALIVE! 🏆
Tonight, the Southern Nye County Search and Rescue team is celebrating a safe, successful outcome after a high-stakes race against the clock and the desert heat.
🚨 The Call Out
At 6:45 PM on June 5, 2026, SNCSAR was dispatched east of Hwy 372. The Nye County Sheriff's Office requested our immediate assistance in locating a lost 72-year-old white male. His wife had received a distressing call from him shortly before 5:00 PM stating he was in trouble.
⚙️ The Deployment
With triple-digit temperatures hovering around 100°F and daylight quickly fading, time was of the essence. We deployed 13 dedicated members equipped with a versatile arsenal:
ATVs & Side-by-Sides (SxS)
Drone Units
Ground Search Teams
After staging with NCSO Deputies at the Pahrump Nugget, the decision was made to establish our Incident Command (IC) up at the Wheeler Pass campground.
🔍 The Discovery
As our teams pushed eastward up the mountain, tactical intuition kicked in. Knowing how brutal 100-degree heat is, the team highly doubted a 72-year-old (it was later revealed that he was not 72 years old but born in 1972) could hike too far uphill in those conditions.
Our instincts paid off. At about the 10-mile mark, just before reaching the campground, our SAR1 (SAR John) unit spotted a male standing on the shoulder of the road.
Team members made contact, and he was able to confirm his name—it was our missing person! Aside from being understandably exhausted and dehydrated, he was fairly stable. He was immediately checked out, (thanks Conrad) given plenty of water, and happily reunited with his incredibly relieved family.
❤️ A Much-Needed Win
"After suffering through a number of disappointing deployments to Shoshone recently for the missing Pahrump man, it was incredibly satisfying for the entire team to bring this gentleman home safely tonight."
A massive THANK YOU to all volunteers who dropped everything (bowling, movies) on a Friday evening to answer the call, and to the Nye County Sheriff's Office for their seamless partnership.
