PSST PURCHASES

Yesterday’s County Commission meeting was both productive and busy for our team. After six months of persistence by Sheriff McGill, working through various challenges, we are pleased to have received approval for several important purchases through the Public Safety Sales and Use Tax.
These investments will significantly enhance the services provided by the Nye County Sheriff’s Office to our communities:
1. Mobile Data Terminals (MDTs)These in-vehicle tablet computers are essential for our deputies’ daily operations. Our current units are no longer compatible with Windows 11, making this upgrade necessary to maintain functionality and ensure compliance with updated NCIC requirements. This improvement will strengthen our technological capabilities in the field.
2. SWAT Body ArmorOur current tactical body armor has reached the end of its service life and is no longer under warranty. Replacing it ensures compliance with NIJ standards and, most importantly, helps protect our SWAT operators in high-risk situations.
3. FARO ScannersThese advanced digital scanning devices are used by our detectives to document crime scenes with precision. We will be acquiring two new scanners and trading in an older unit toward a third, enhancing our ability to investigate major incidents effectively.
4. NightHawk SoftwareThis investigative software compiles digital data from multiple sources into one platform, allowing investigators to analyze and establish evidence more efficiently. Its effectiveness was demonstrated last year in a child exploitation case, where the suspect pleaded guilty and received a 35-year sentence.
These upgrades represent a meaningful step forward in our mission to serve and protect the residents of Nye County. We want to express our deep gratitude to the Nye County Commissioners for their support in the mission of the Nye County Sheriff’s Office.

Joining Forces Distracted Driver Campaign

The Nye County Sheriff’s Office will be joining forces with participating law enforcement agencies in Nevada for a Joining Forces Distracted Driver Campaign. The campaign will take place from April 3rd– April 20th, 2026.

This Distracted Driver Campaign aims to increase law enforcement participation by coordinating highly visible patrols across the State of Nevada with the goal of keeping motorists safe by educating the motoring public about the dangers of distracted driving.

Distractions come in many forms, whether it’s the phone, other passengers, eating or anything else that takes your mind and eyes off the road. Focus on what matters most – driving – and keep yourself and others on the road safe. Also keep in mind that sending or reading a text takes your eyes off the road for 5 seconds. At 55 mph, that is the equivalent of driving the length of an entire football field with your eyes closed. The Zero Fatalities Nevada program wants to remind drivers that every time you choose to get behind the wheel lives are in your hands.

The Nye County Sheriff’s Office remains dedicated to bringing the number of fatalities on Nevada's roadways to zero through increasing public awareness about the dangers of speeding, driving unrestrained, impaired driving, distracted driving and more. More information about safe driving and the Nevada Zero Fatalities goal is available Online at www.ZeroFatalitiesNV.com.

Pahrump Valley Little League Opening Ceremonies

Last Saturday, the Nye County Sheriff's Office proudly participated in the Opening Ceremonies for Pahrump Valley Little League at Ian Deutch Memorial Park.
This year marked a record-breaking season for PVLL, with an impressive 380 kids registered—the highest participation the league has ever seen.
The event featured a special appearance by Stomper the elephant of the Athletics, bringing excitement and energy to the young athletes and their families. Sheriff Joe McGill had the honor of throwing out the ceremonial first pitch to kick off the season.
The Sheriff's Office is proud to support community events like this and looks forward to a great season for all the players and families involved.
A huge shoutout and thanks to PVLL for including us.

Nye County Sheriff's Office Joining Forces Speed Awareness Campaign

The Nye County Sheriff’s Office will be joining forces with participating law enforcement agencies in Nevada for a Joining Forces Speed Awareness Campaign. The campaign will take place from March 13th, 2026, through March 29th, 2026.

From 2017 to 2021 there were 491 speeding related fatalities in Nevada with 339 occurring in Clark County. In fact, speeding is one of the biggest contributors to fatalities on Nevada’s roadways. Speeding isn’t just about going faster than the posted speed limit. Speeding includes driving too fast during bad weather conditions such as rain, ice, and snow and jeopardizing your safety and the safety of others on the road. The Joining Forces Speed Awareness Campaign aims to increase law enforcement participation and public safety by coordinating highly visible patrols across the State of Nevada with the goal of raising awareness, educating the motoring public, and saving lives.

Speeding is more than just breaking the law. The consequences are far-ranging:

Greater potential for loss of vehicle control.
Increased stopping distance after the driver perceives a danger.
Increased degree of crash severity leading to more several injuries.

SHOOTER IN CUSTODY

As many of you have already heard through social media, there was a subject reported with a shotgun at Sheree's Ranch on the far south end of Homestead Road. The call came into Nye County Sheriff's Office and at the time of the call he was firing shots at the building. Deputies arrived within a short time and located the subject and he has been taken into custody with no injuries to anyone. There is no reason to think that there is any further threat as a result of this incident.
