It's time for the Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program. Please read below for important information on how to access the program.

SENIOR FARMER'S MARKET $50 COUPONS:

The Lake County Council on Aging will once again be a distribution agent for the Senior Farmer’s Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP). The program provides limited income seniors with ten $5 coupons ($50) that can be exchanged for eligible foods at area farmers’ markets. To be eligible for this program you must be a Lake County resident, age 60 or older with a household income (from all sources) of less than $23,107 for a household of one, and $31,284 for a household of two.

THERE IS A NEW PROCESS FOR 2019 SO PLEASE READ CAREFULLY. This year SFMNP coupons will be distributed by a lottery (not first come, first served as in previous years) which will be drawn at 2:30pm on July 9th. Eligible seniors interested in applying for the program will need to submit a completed application to the Council on Aging office from July 1 through the close of business on July 8th. Applications will be reviewed and eligible applicants will be entered into the lottery. Applicants must show a valid Driver’s License or State ID at the time of application, and the address on the ID must match the application in order to be eligible. Applications will be available beginning July 1st at the Council on Aging office, on our website (www.lccoa.org) and at the local senior centers.

"Ohio is on pace to become one of a handful of states mostly in the Midwest and Northeast that will have more residents age 60 and older than people under age 20. The implications of the trend are far-reaching, from filling the needs of senior services for the oldest residents to a shrinking need for classroom seats for the youngest."
For more demographics and data visit the Lake County Port & Economic Development Authority's website at https://lcport.org/lake-county.

Although geographically the smallest of Ohio's counties, Lake County ranks 11th in population with approximately 229,582 citizens. The County possesses a highly skilled workforce, and quality education is a top priority, with teachers in Lake County averaging the highest wages in the state, and it h...

Did you know the Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program (OSHIIP) is one of the top in the nation?! In addition, the Lake County Council on Aging offers Medicare counseling services right here in Lake County through trained OSHIIP volunteers. Best of all, it's FREE!

"Some people have told us… 'why not make (Medicare) simpler by reducing the number of options?' We don't have to make that difficult choice when we have things like the SHIP program, because we have counselors here available to you to explain some of the complexity, who understand the ins and out, and are here to provide resources to people in the community." - Center for Medicare Director Demetrios Kouzoukas

⚠️ Watch out for scams!

IRS Phone Scam to be aware of in our area:
We have had a number of people call us and report they are receiving calls from (920)522-4386. The area code is from Wisconsin and one of the callers advised the male attempting to complete the scam said he was from “south Wisconsin”. They indicated the callers claimed to be from the Social Security Administration and claimed the victim’s social security number had been compromised. They wanted the people to get money from their checking accounts and send them cash via various other payment methods.

Obviously this is a scam and people should not pay any attention to it. For more information you can check out this information provided by the IRS
