HISTORY OF THE CONCORD TWP FIRE DEPT
In the early spring of 1948 a group of Concord residents raised $925.00 to start the Concord Fire Department. Clifford Webster served as Assistant Chief and Robert A. Welk was the Secretary and Treasurer. The first fire truck was a 1930 Model AA truck with a modified chassis. AT the September 8, 1948 Concord Trustees meeting the following men were appointed to

the position of firemen: Earl Ehrhardt, Ernest Spear Jr. Gust Pontoni, Tom McMasters, Howard Sarbach and Donald Webster. Compensation for one year was one dollar, which covered the cost of Workman’s Compensation for each fireman. At the same meeting the Trustees approved spending $300 for Fire Protection for one year. History of Concord Twp
In 1805 Concord became part of Geauga County when that county was created. At the March, 1822, meeting ordered by the Geauga County Commissioners, the Township to be known as Concord, in honor of the Revolutionary War battle site, was separated from Painesville Township. On August 22, 1831, Daniel and Elizabeth Coit of Norwich Connecticut deeded to the Trustees of Concord Township and their successors forever the Concord Township Public Grounds located on the corner of Old Route State 44 and state Route 608. The property that was referred to as the Commons was to be used for the benefit of the citizens of Concord Township. For the sum of one dollar, the property now occupied by Concord Town Hall, Fire Station One, and the Gazebo, became the site of Concord’s government. In March of 1840, Lake County was separated from Geauga County so that the formal government organization of Concord Township, Lake County, Ohio, United States of America was completed

Today, we kick off a week dedicated to honoring our nation’s prehospital care clinicians. Did you know that across the Buckeye State, Ohio’s fire service delivers the vast majority of emergency medical care?

Our fire departments are the bedrock of Ohio's EMS system. When a medical emergency strikes, our firefighters are almost always the first on the scene. They don't just fight fires—they serve as highly skilled paramedics and EMTs, delivering advanced, life-saving medical care directly to your doorstep in minutes.

From managing critical trauma to delivering cutting-edge pediatric care, Ohio’s fire departments work tirelessly to advance the 2026 theme, "Improving Outcomes, Together."

To all the firefighter-paramedics, EMTs, and dispatchers serving our communities from Lake Erie to the Ohio River: Thank you for your relentless resilience, skill, and unwavering commitment to keeping Ohio safe.
