Iron sharpens iron. That is what happens at the Regional High School Mock Trial competition. Teams from Howland, Kenston, Lake Catholic, Niles McKinley, and Orange engaged in a fierce competition for the right to advance to States. Each team was well prepared and put on an excellent case. Good luck to Kenston Team 1 and Orange Team 3 in Columbus!

Another great year judging the Ohio High School Mock Trial District competition. The students mastered the materials and performed at an exceptionally high level. Every year remimds me that the future is in good hands. Congratulations to Lake Catholic, Kenston Team #1, and Kenston Team #3 for advancing to the Regional competition!

The Lake District Competition for Ohio High School Mock Trial is set for January 30th at the Lake County Courthouse. Twelve teams from seven different schools will be participating. Mock Trial objectives include: improving critical thinking, reading, writing, public speaking, and listening skills. This year we have three schools from Lake County participating: Andrews Osborne Academy; Lake Catholic; and Mentor. If your school is interested in participating next year, message me for more information.

The following courts will be closed on Monday, December 2, 2024, due to inclement weather: Lake County Domestic Relations, General, Juvenile, and Probate. Mentor Municipal Court and Painesville Municipal Court will also be closed as well.

Had the opportunity to judge the next generation of talent today at the Case Classic mock trial competition. Teams from across the country were here. These students are ready to do great things! Was happy to see so many volunteer judges from Lake County, especially from the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office and the Lake County Public Defender’s Office.

A great opportunity for students to see a spectacular building and learn about the Supreme Court of Ohio.

The Supreme Court of Ohio and the Thomas J. Moyer Ohio Judicial Center Foundation provide school transportation grants to help defray the cost of a visit to the Supreme Court and its Visitor Education Center.

Yesterday 14 teams from 11 high schools competed at our beautiful courthouse in the 2024 Mock Trial District competition. Schools that were represented were: Mentor, Riverside, Harvey, Lake Catholic, Andrews Osborne, NDCL, Chagrin Falls, Orange, Warren JFK, Newton Falls, and Niles McKinley. Each trial was before a 3 judge panel. All of the students that participated put in a lot of effort to prepare and it showed in the quality of their presentations. These are tomorrow’s leaders. Their conduct, both inside and outside of the courtroom, convinces me that the future is bright.
