On Giving Tuesday Hope Chest was also visited by the Lake County Treasurer's Office. They had collected many items to donate. We were happy to show them around the store and let them know what we do.

AND THEN a Lake County Sherriff's truck pulled up. It was filled with another round of donations! When asked, the only thanks they needed were prayers for a deputy who is in the ICU with COVID. Our prayers are certainly going out to him.

Today, November 30th was Giving Tuesday. Hope Chest saw proof of it in action! Victims of the fires in the Headlands were so overwhelmed by the generosity of community members they brought two truck loads of extra items to Hope Chest. (Thanks American Pride Tree Service for the use of the truck.)

At the time these donations came in, a couple with a family of 6 was "shopping" at Hope Chest. They had previously lost their house and were wondering how they were going to provide a Christmas for their children. Thanks to the donation from the Headlands group their kids will now have a wonderful Christmas!

The kindness of others warmed the hearts of volunteers, donors and clients at Hope Chest!

Our back to school distribution took place today and began with a commendation presented by Commissioner John Plecnik on behalf of our Lake County Commissioners. Also pictured are Asa Cox of Asa's Angels of Hope and Michael Zuren who will host distribution events at their locations. Many hands make light work, and some of them are pictured here. This is just a glimpse of the tremendous effort put together by Coordinator Donna Bullis and Jon Bullis. Once we are all done, at least 1500 children will have received backpacks stuffed with school supplies. Five hundred may receive free haircuts from Ladies and Gentlemen Salon, and hundreds may obtain clothing courtesy of The Hope Chest. Majors John and Alma Riley are grateful for all our donors and volunteers. We are awed by the generosity of the Lake County community!
Molly Obergefell, a graduate of Lake Catholic High School, has been a Girl Scout for 12 years. For her Gold Award project, Molly set up a mixed recycling program at St. Mary of the Assumption School in Mentor, Ohio. Major Waste Disposal Services was generous enough to donate a receptacle, six large recycling bins, and 24 classroom bins to facilitate this program. In preparation for the recycling program, she generated excitement among students and teachers by organizing weekly “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” challenges. The final and most successful challenge was the “Reuse” clothing drive to benefit The Hope Chest in Painesville, Ohio. She also taught preschool classes about recycling and led a 45-minute all-school assembly to recap the weekly challenges, kick off the recycling program, and emphasize why recycling is so important. In addition to Girl Scouts, Molly participates in almost every performing arts ensemble at Lake Catholic High School, including concert band, jazz band, marching band, theater, choir, and LC singers. Next year, she will be majoring in music therapy at the University of Dayton.
