Welcome Sado!!!

K-9 Sado Begins Training at our Lake County Sheriff’s Office

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is preparing to re-institute the K-9 Unit to the Road Patrol to assist in narcotics detection, tracking and many other areas of Law Enforcement. The new K-9 is currently undergoing extensive training with his assigned handler, Deputy Shane Hopp.

After we selected our new K-9 Deputy and the training began, we needed to come up with a name for our new partner. We requested the assistance of the Riverside Local School District’s Elementary Schools in helping us decide on a name. All of the elementary schools including, Riverview Elementary, Melridge Elementary, Buckeye Elementary and Parkside Elementary accepted the task and each class at these schools submitted a name for consideration in the naming of our new K-9. We thoroughly enjoyed reviewing the names submitted. We narrowed them down and are thrilled to introduce K-9 Sado!

Please join us in cheering on Sado and Deputy Hopp as they complete the intense training and achieve certification. We would like to thank the Riverside Local School District and all the students and staff who participated in this project and helped us name our newest Deputy! He will be visiting very soon!! The Lake County Sheriff’s Office looks forward to officially welcoming and introducing K-9 Sado to the Road Patrol next month upon completion of the training process.

VICTIM ADVOCATE TRAINING OPPORTUNITY!

CSAM Cases: How NCMEC can Assist Victim Advocates
May 6th at 3pm ET/2pm CT/1pm MT/12pm PT
60 minute FREE webinar offered by National Center for Missing & Exploited Children

Victim Advocates are the lifeline for child sexual abuse material (CSAM) survivors navigating the criminal justice system. The complex trauma of the crime and the complicated system of victim notification and restitution can challenge even the most experienced victim advocates.

NCMEC works with victim advocates each day to help answer questions like:
“What if they ask me how often their images are traded?”
“How do I anticipate their concerns, I don’t have much information on their case…”
“What if they need more long term help than we can offer?”
“How can they find a lawyer to help?”
“What are the resources and tools to help CSAM survivors and their families?”

This 1 hour webinar will highlight the important considerations all victim specialists need to know before working with CSAM survivors. In addition, participants will learn how to obtain vital case information from NCMEC, learn about removing videos and images from the internet, locate specialized counseling and legal assistance and hear tips from survivors on how to approach these cases for the best possible long term support and success.

To sign up, you will need register for an account on our virtual training platform NCMEC CONNECT and have NCMEC verify your account. Please allow 1-2 days for registration processing, then sign up for the webinar. If you already have a NCMEC CONNECT account, you can register for this webinar today http://ow.ly/mfxT50EC1Eg

This week we celebrate our amazing volunteers. Without their dedication many victims would go without services. Our sincerest appreciation goes out to these volunteers for the many hours of service they provide.

“Volunteering is an act of heroism on a grand scale. And it matters profoundly. It does more than help people beat the odds; it changes the odds.” – William J. Clinton
