Words cannot describe how much LCVAP will miss Karen! Her dedication to justice and compassion towards victims will not be forgotten. We wish you the happiest retirement!!!

Chief Assistant Prosecutor of the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office, Criminal Division, Retires After 35 Years of Service.

Following a long career of serving the people of Lake County, Ohio with distinction, Karen L. Kowall announced her retirement from the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office effective October 30, 2020.
Karen began her career in 1985 as a Legal Intern with the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office, and rose to the position of Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney of the Criminal Division. During her tenure, she served under three elected Prosecuting Attorneys including John E. Shoop, Steven C.LaTourette and Charles E. Coulson.
During her career Karen helped keep Lake County safe by trying numerous violent and notorious criminals including David Wolf, Kevin Knoefel, Anton Hamilton, Jr., Danna Weimer, Van Patterson (coined the BVD Bandit) and cult leader Jeffrey Lundgren.
Karen will be greatly missed by her colleagues but we wish her the best as she begins a brand new chapter spending time with family and friends, particularly her granddaughter.
