Painted Post Fire Department

Painted Post Fire Department Village of Painted Post Fire Department The Painted Post Fire Service began in 1870 with the Ardell Hose Company and the Bronson Hook and Ladder Company.

The Painted Post Fire Department was organized on April 21, 1886. The first recorded Fire Chief was H.B. Hodgman. The fire department was located in the present Erwin Town Hall building. In the 1940β€²s the protection area that the Painted Post Fire Department was responsible for was the Village of Painted Post, Gang Mills, Presho, Monterey, Lindley, Coopers Plains, Hornby, Riverside and down to the

Pennsylvania border and up to Addison and Campbell. The first motorized piece of equipment was purchased in 1918. A Ladder/Hose truck was purchased in 1920 and the first fire engine was purchased in 1936, a Ward LaFrance 500 gpm pumper. The Fire Department moved into the new Village Hall in 1952. A Rescue Squad was formed in 1953. In 1969, Painted Post purchased and received two American LaFrance Series 900 1000 gpm diesel powered custom built fire engines. These two engines were the first diesel powered pieces of fire apparatus in Steuben County. Today the Painted Post Fire Department provides fire protection to the Villages of Painted Post and Riverside and mutual aid to surrounding fire departments. The fire department is a Municipal Volunteer Fire Department with an Insurance Services Organization (ISO) fire suppression rating of Class 4. The fire department is very proud of this rating because it is usually only earned by full time professional city fire departments. Chief: Joseph Button
1st Assistant Chief: Larry Smith
2nd Assistant Chief: Brian McCarthy

Colonial Days Parade will be a special one for us this year!

We'll be leading the 11:00 AM parade with more Painted Post Fire Department trucks than usual as we transition from some of our longtime apparatus to our newest additions.

The top photo shows Rescue 25, Truck 3, and Engine 29 making their final Colonial Days appearance. While the bottom photos feature our new Truck 3 and Engine 29 making their Colonial Days debut.

Keep an eye out for our convertible, Engine 27, too! Our Chiefs will be riding along as she nears retirement from active service.

Tag us in your photos, and we hope to see you there!

Yesterday, the Painted Post Fire Department was excited to host the Corning Incorporated Emergency Response Fire Team for hands on training. Members brought their new Squad 1 and Squad 3 to our station and spent time sharpening critical firefighting skills on our forcible entry prop.

Sullivan Park ERT is a unique combination of paid and volunteer employees who are trained to respond to a wide range of emergencies. Their ERT consists of Fire, Rescue, Hazmat, and Medical subteams and is made up employees from across the company, including Engineers, Nurses, Digital & IT, Tradespeople, Lab Technicians, Scientists, Administrative Staff, and more.

Many members also serve as volunteer firefighters, EMTs, and first responders in their hometowns throughout the Southern Tier of NY and Northern PA, bringing valuable experience and dedication both on and off the job.
