Each month in June, the National Safety Council (NSC) recognizes National Safety Month, dedicated to promoting safety at home, at work, on the road, and in the community. Follow along this month as we share tips from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) for keeping babies and children safe during the summer, including information on sun and heat, water, and travel safety.

Together, we can ensure that every child has a safe, healthy, and happy summer.

Don't forget that babies and young kids have thinner skin than adults, which can make them more prone to serious burns. When you're gearing up for some time out in the sun, remember these tips from :

🧴Apply generously and liberally to all exposed areas, especially the face, nose, ears, feet and hands, and even the backs of the knees

😎 Wear sunglasses with UV protection. Look for child-sized sunglasses with UV protection too.

☀️ Limit sun exposure between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm when UV rays are strongest.

👶 Keep babies younger than 6 months out of direct sunlight. Find shade under a tree, an umbrella, or stroller canopy.

⛅ Remember that you can get sunburn even on cloudy days because up to 80% of the sun’s UV rays can get through the clouds and UV rays can bounce back from water, sand, snow, and concrete.

🚭 World No To***co Day – May 31, 2026
Unmasking the Appeal: Countering Ni****ne & To***co Addiction

Today is a reminder that to***co and ni****ne products aren’t just habits—they’re part of a rapidly evolving industry designed to hook the next generation.

From flavored products and sleek designs to synthetic ni****ne and social media marketing, these strategies are built to look “safe” or appealing—especially to youth. But the truth remains: ni****ne is highly addictive, and early use can lead to lifelong dependence.

📊 Youth use is rising worldwide, with e-cigarettes and ni****ne pouches becoming increasingly common—often with fewer regulations and strong marketing influence.

💡 This year’s focus:
✔️ Exposing industry tactics
✔️ Supporting stronger protections (flavor bans, ad restrictions, youth access laws)
✔️ Empowering individuals with knowledge and tools to quit or say no

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Local support matters.
At Langdon Prairie Health, their team is available to support healthier choices through education, prevention, and connecting you to resources that work for you and your family. Call 701-256-6120 for more information.
