Our desert willows (Chilopsis linearis) are in full bloom! Another great California native tree or large shrub for wildlife. We also have a few trees around the Admin Building that are hybrids between the desert willow and the catalpa tree called x Chitalpa.

Guara (Oenothera lindheimeri) is a nice perennial flower for a low-water garden. They are native to the Texas and Louisiana, so they can handle some heat and drought, which is perfect for a Pala garden. Check out the gauras in flower around the Pala Admin Building and the Pala People's Garden. Pollinators love them. There are several garden varieties that include various flower colors, and all of them have these wonderful, long flowering displays.

The plant is believed to be at least 13,000 years old. An agreement was reached Tuesday to save it.
