From Jackson County Judge, Judge Jill Sklar:
As Hurricane Beryl approaches a Hurricane Warning has now been issued for Jackson County. It still appears that it will make landfall close to Matagorda Bay and Jackson County. It will mostly likely be a Category 1, but it is very possible that it may intensify to a Category 2. That means wind could be up to 110 mph. A storm surge of up to 4-6 feet and heavy rainfall is expected.
A voluntary evacuation has been issued for our low lying and river bottom areas and the southern coastal areas of the county. Particularly if you are in the Carancahua Community Area, Boca Chica, Cape Carancahua, or La Salle Landing, please heed the warnings and prepare immediately.
Remember if you decide to ride this out first responders may not be able to respond during the peak of the storm and the loss of power could be for several days. If you stay, be prepared to take care of yourself and your loved ones.
Lastly, be kind and check on your family, friends and neighbors. We will all need to pull together the next several days.
Jackson County Texas Emergency Management and local leaders will continue to give updates.
