SAFETY/IL - LAKE MICHIGAN - CHICAGOHARBOR/MARINE EVENT/SEC SLM BNM 0292-26
ON SEPTEMBER 12, 2026, THE COAST GUARD WILL ESTABLISH A SAFETY ZONE ON LAKE MICHIGAN FOR A SWIM EVENT IN THE VICINITY OF OHIO STREET BEACH IN CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. THE SAFETY ZONE WILL BE ENFORCED FROM 7:00 A.M. UNTIL 12:00 P.M. ENTRY INTO, TRANSITING, OR REMAINING WITHIN THE SAFETY ZONE IS PROHIBITED UNLESS AUTHORIZED BY THE CAPTAIN OF THE PORT OR A DESIGNATED REPRESENTATIVE. Rusty Rodeo cancelled due to river conditions.
We'll get those rusty crayfish next year!

EVENT CANCELED: Rusty Rodeo – Saturday, Aug. 15 🦞

Due to recent heavy rainfall, high Fox River flow rates and additional rain and thunderstorms in the forecast, Rusty Rodeo has been canceled for Saturday, Aug. 15, in the interest of participant safety.

The heart of Rusty Rodeo is giving families the opportunity to get into the Fox River to search for and remove invasive rusty crayfish. With current and anticipated river conditions, we cannot safely offer that experience this year.

We know many families look forward to Rusty Rodeo each summer, and we share your disappointment. Thank you for your understanding and to all of our partner agencies, organizations and volunteers who help make this event possible.

We hope to wrangle those rusty crayfish with you again next year!

We had a great time at the Village of Maple Park, Illinois celebrating National Night Out. Many thanks to the Maple Park Police Department for their hospitality. The community had great questions about safety on the water and we look forward to seeing all of you wearing those life jackets!

We are always impressed with the display of vehicles and equipment at these events. Police cars, fire trucks... Kane County Emergency Management - Nice Humvee!
