Putnam County Sheriff's Office Explorer Post 955

Interested in a future career in Law Enforcement? Come join the Putnam County Sheriffs Office Explorers for ages 14-21.

Exploring is for young men and women aged 14 through 21. The intent of Law Enforcement Exploring is to educate and involve youth in Law Enforcement operations and to interest them in Law Enforcement functions whether they enter a career in Law Enforcement or not. Explorers can volunteer at community events, perform security work, direct traffic, finger print small children, and help with Crime Pre

vention Programs. Explorers can also learn first hand, how Deputies do their jobs. Deputies and Detectives with special skills are invited to meetings to explain how the different divisions of the Sheriff's Office operate. Explorers are allowed to sit in the Communications Center, at the Booking Desk of the jail and, after completing appropriate training, are allowed to ride on patrol with a Deputy. Explorers participate in a variety of programs and projects featuring safety, training and service, to include:
- The History of Law Enforcement
- Introduction of Law Enforcement
- Patrol Procedures
- Traffic Control
- Accident Investigation and Forms
- Criminal Investigation
- Crime Scene Investigation
- Search and Arrest Procedure
- Crowd Control Procedures

This weekend we were blessed to attend Clay County for the FSEA Winter Delegate… we had two explorers place in the shooting competition and we participated in hand on scenarios… If you are 14-21 years of age and would like to join feel free to attend meetings on Monday’s from 6-8 pm at the old Jenkins Middle School !!!!

JOIN US IN CONGRATULATING NEWEST DEPUTY JACOB PERRY!

Our former Explorer Jacob Perry successfully completed law enforcement academy and graduated from Santa Fe College last week and yesterday was officially sworn-in as a patrol deputy for the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.

We are so proud of everything you've accomplished so far Jacob and we know there are great things ahead as your start your career!

BSA WINTERFEST COMPETITION:

This weekend, our Explorer Post sent a team to compete in the BSA Winterfest Competition in Gatlinburg, TN. Winterfest is a competition where the Explorers are judged on their performance in a variety of scenarios pertaining to Law Enforcement calls for service. The competition saw Explorer Posts from 17 states across the Southeastern Region of the country. Our Explorers competed against 43 different Law Enforcement Posts in 5 events:

Unknown Trouble
Cell Search
Active Assailant
Domestic Violence
Traffic stops

Our Explorers took 1st place in Cell Searches, and 3rd place in Unknown Trouble. They received praise from many of their instructors, who were impressed by their leadership skills, teamwork, and attention to detail.

We are extremely proud of our Explorers as they represented their agency, county, and state at this competition. We could not be happier with their performance, and we congratulate them on their achievements.

We’d like to thank our advisor team for their dedication to the program, and the hours they’ve put in to prepare the Explorers for this competition. We owe a special thanks to our other Law Enforcement and Corrections Deputies who assisted with their training.

Exploring is a BSA supported organization designed to provide an inside look at career fields such as law enforcement or fire/EMS services. Our Explorer Post serves youth 14-21 who are interested in law enforcement, corrections or communications. They meet on Monday evenings at the sheriff's office. This morning kicked off our week-long SJSO/PCSO Joint Explorer Academy. Today, eight of our Explorers traveled to Camp Blanding in Starke, FL, to utilize their training facilities. Explorers from Flagler, Jacksonville, Bradford, and St. Johns were given the opportunity to rappel from a 60-foot tower. The Explorers also ran the obstacle course as a unit, and assisted their peers to complete the course. Additionally, our Explorers were introduced to the Field Leadership Reaction Course, where they worked through several obstacles as a team. The Putnam County Sheriff's Office Explorer Post currently has limited positions open, if you know of any youth aged 14-20 who may have an interest in law enforcement, please reach out to Deputy Sheriff Cory Felbinger at [email protected].
