💔We received a sad call for help from Colombia, South Carolina. A 4-year-old dog was brought into their care covered in skin infections and suffering from an upper respiratory infection.

Odell’s body is covered in scars and we can’t help but wonder; where did he come from? What happened to him? Has he ever known what it feels to be loved? We’ll never know his true background, but it’s easy to see that he’s lived a life of abuse and sadness.

Odell often hangs his head low in his kennel; he’s sad and exhausted, and ever since he arrived at the shelter, he’s been losing weight at an alarming rate. Despite this, he is very kind and gentle. All he wants is a chance to feel safe and for someone to finally love him.

Today is the day Odell learns how beautiful and worth it he really is. We have tagged Odell for rescue and are transferring him to Doctor Terry’s for care.

Please help us provide Odell with the care he deserves. Together we can change lives, one dog at a time.

Certainly many stories have been told within the wall of our Palatka Little House ...

PUTNAM AT HEART: Local writing competition and literary magazine. Whether you were born in Putnam County or you moved here and decided to put down roots, we’re all Putnam at Heart.

The “Putnam at Heart” Story Writing Contest is open to anyone living in Putnam County who has an interesting, heartfelt, or funny personal story to tell. Join us at the library this summer for Story Building Workshops with Judi White and then enter your original, personal essay of between 500-2500 words, your original song lyrics or poems (up to three, of any style), or a one act play.

Deadline for submissions is Saturday, August 4th by noon. Email your digital files (preferred) to [email protected] or bring a hard copy with your contact information attached to your local Putnam County Library branch. Sponsored by the MAGI (Multicultural Arts Guild, Inc.), the Arts Council, and the Crescent City Woman’s Club.

Winners will be announced in mid-August and their work will be published in a digital and print collection this fall. The authors and musicians with the best stories will also be featured in our upcoming Folk Festivals. Entries should be inspired by Putnam County - the place where we all live (and love). Think about what inspires you: local music, local art, nature, history, or your own family or circle of friends. We want to hear from you. What makes Putnam so special?
