As part of our efforts to educate our followers and the community, the Israeli consulate of Orlando and Central Florida, is proud to present our first official program: The Israeli song of the week. Every week, bli neder (no guarantee) we will post one Israeli song along with an English translation to the lyrics and explanations if needed. This is not only a great opportunity for all of you to practice and strengthen your Hebrew, but also to become familiar with the 2nd best thing that is made in Israel (after hummus of course), Israeli music. Please like, share (B’ezrat H’share) and comment with your feedback, questions or requests.
The first song we presents to you is currently the biggest hit Israel, a song that caused Jonathon Ambar to lose his voice, a song that Ben’s mom uses as a ringtone every time he calls her, and a song that even made Arik move his head from side to side very slowly. Ladies and Gentlemen, Derech Hashalom by Peer Tasi is our song of the Week! With almost 9 million views on YouTube in less than 3 months, countless plays on the Israeli radio channels and tons of remixes, it was a pretty obvious choice. Derech Hashalom (The peace way) is a famous street in Tel Aviv, mainly because of the Azrieli towers (formerly the tallest buildings in Israel), and the adjacent train station carries the same name. The song has no deep meaning and it is purely a fun song. We recommend listening to it in your car, while imagining you are stuck in the endless traffic of the Ayalon highways in Tel Aviv.
Enjoy!
Tel Aviv before midnight the wind doesn’t want to move
And the humidity chokes me without respite
In a coffee house in the neighborhood, the lights are still on
On an old chair she seats alone
I’m not sure what to say
Should I even approach her, turn around?
A breeze is coming from the sea, she throws a brief glance
She invites me to sit down
She orders Cappuccino for both of us, and only complains about the heat
So hot! Should we go? She asks
She lives in a rented apartment, very close to Derech Hashalom
We’ll take the check, tonight we won't go to sleep
She orders Cappuccino for both of us, and only complains about the heat
So hot! Should we go?, she asks
She lives in a rented apartment, very close to Derech Hashalom
We’ll take the check, tonight we won't go to sleep
In Tel Aviv after midnight, going up the stairwell
She takes the keys out and opens the door
Small table, two arm chairs
She asks what would you like to drink?
I feel just like a character in a movie
Two glasses on the table and she’s pouring and pouring
She’s killing me
Opens another white wine, throws a small smile at me that
Slowly penetrates my heart
She orders Cappuccino for both of us, and only complains about the heat
So hot! Should we go? She asks
She lives in a rented apartment, very close to Derech Hashalom
We’ll take the check
Between everything that’s happening between us she turns on the A/C on because it's so hot
So Hot! Maybe we’ll go to the room
If you want you can also stay here to sleep
What sleep? Tonight we don’t care about anything
