This is a real concern especially for small rural agencies that don’t have the same growth to help sustain the increasing demands and expenses. Equipment and apparatus are aging with increasing operational cost with flat or declining revenues.

A new statewide assessment found two-thirds of Colo. fire departments can't fund their full operations, and nearly 80% can't afford the equipment and staffing they say they need.

Despite the recent moisture we have seen scattered throughout the area the fire danger remains high throughout Mesa County. Given the ongoing fire danger and fire activity throughout the State and Region, Mesa County will remain in Stage 2 Fire Restrictions.
