2019 Nebraska 4-H Summer Reading Program

June 3 – Fueled for Flight
How do astronauts eat in space? What keeps their food from flying around? The food that astronauts eat in space comes in a variety of forms. They also have to be creative in keeping their food on their plate. During this lesson, we will explore how to keep food safe in space and do a taste testing activity.

June 10 – Mission Moon
Ever wonder how it felt when Neil Armstrong took his first step onto the moon in 1969? We will make moon sand to find out! During this lesson we will discover what it is like to live on the moon, explore how astronauts meet their basic needs, and design and create moon stations.

June 17 – Rockets to the Rescue
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be an aerospace engineer? Professional aerospace engineers frequently encounter design challenges when developing, manufacturing and testing aircraft and aerospace products. They must be creative and use their imaginations to best solve problems. During this lesson we will design and build an aerodynamic food transportation device that could deliver a payload of nutritious food to disaster victims.

June 24 – Stories in the Sky
Have you ever looked up in the night sky on a clear night? You probably saw many stars shining brightly. What shapes or patterns have you seen? If you look closely you might be able to see constellations. During this lesson we will explore space, discover myths about where constellations came from, and participate in astronaut challenges.
